Product Manager

New York Media is seeking an experienced Product Manager with a strong technical background to join our team. The PM will work across our properties -- including NYMag, Vulture, Grub Street, the Cut, Science of Us, and Select All -- to build world-class digital products that serve our growing audience. The PM will focus primarily but not exclusively on internal tools and content management systems. We’re looking for someone who will advocate for our writers and editors in the development process and can couple strategic thinking with an organized, deadline-driven approach to launching products.

The position is responsible for gathering and documenting requirements from consumers, business owners, editors, and advertisers; writing use cases, business logic, and training documentation; and helping to drive the acquisition of new users and convert them into loyal readers. In addition, Product Managers will regularly assess and report on competitive properties, partnership opportunities, and new technologies.

Candidates should have experience leading product discovery, wireframing solutions with developers, interviewing users, analyzing data, and maintaining documentation. They should be passionate about working collaboratively across disciplines and experimenting continuously. They should be comfortable establishing data-centric goals, analyzing the data post-launch, and presenting results and recommendations to the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

Integrated Strategic Planning Manager

New York Media has an opening for a Strategic Planning Manager to support the Publisher and Executive Director of Client Solutions. This role will serve as the primary liaison between the Sales/Marketing Team and the Editorial Leadership Team across both the print and digital platforms.

Print Responsibilities:

  • Maintain print positioning grids for all issues of New York Magazine, Design Hunting, and New York Weddings
  • Assists the Publisher by establishing the overall appearance of print publications, including relative importance of ad placement, relationships with advertisers, and competitive separation between clients, and editorial adjacency restrictions for print advertisements
  • Meets bi-weekly production deadline schedule, working in step with the Production Director

  • HTML5 & CSS3: Write semantic markup that robots love. Know that <div>s are the elements of last resort. Arrange the trickiest of layouts, while keeping your CSS simple.
  • Responsive Design: Implement designs that flow from Phone to Phablet to Tablet to Desktop without getting dizzy.
  • Client-side Javascript: Love Javascript. Walking the DOM is a walk in the park. "use strict" isn't optional for you.
  • Server-side Javascript: Node.js and NPM are the bee's knees. Docker makes it easy to deliver.

New York Media is seeking an experienced audience analytics expert to oversee the collection and analysis of audience data to inform and enable editorial, product, sales and marketing initiatives. The Director of Audience Analytics will lead a team of analysts focused on delivering data-driven insights that help the company grow revenue, grow audience, understand our customers and learn what works and what doesn’t.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with each digital department to define and meet audience measurement needs, gathering requirements, insuring that instrumentation and tools support those requirements, setting up reports and assisting with analysis and insights, supporting the following specific initiatives:
    • Editorial – Develop recurring reports, conduct ad hoc analysis and deliver actionable insights that help the team of editors and writers understand what content attracts and retains audience to drive digital growth
    • Sales – Determine benchmark performance for ad products, especially custom ad units, define measurement standards for custom content, manage relationships with syndicated data vendors, develop first party data plan in conjunction with sales and product management

Experience and Skills

  • Deep understanding of digital user behavior and a passion for digital media
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Computer Science, Statistics or a related field. MBA a plus.
  • Curious, data-driven thinker with excellent quantitative skills and proven ability to deliver useful analytics reporting

Position Overview:

This position provides strategic analysis to support the expansion of New York Media’s digital audience. The top priorities are to identify and track key trends in our websites’ metrics and find opportunities to drive consumer engagement. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day compilation and reporting of web analytics:
