Ulster University welcomed a delegation from the British Film Institute (BFI), Northern Ireland Screen and Belfast City Council this week to discuss the exciting future of the film industry in Northern Ireland. The delegation heard all about the state-of-the-art Studio Ulster complex, how the skills gap in the creative industries is being closed through ambitious skills strategies, and there were discussions about how virtual production and other digital innovations in cinema are revolutionising sustainability in filmmaking. The day included a visit to the Belfast Stories site, a £100m landmark development and major tourism destination right in the heart of Belfast, and a tour of the Studio Ulster complex, a £72m virtual production studio which will open later in 2024 as part of the expanding Harbour Studios ecosystem.
