Suez Canal ship Ever Given fully refloated by salvage crews

The Ever Given, the cargo ship which held up global trade for nearly a week after running aground in the Suez Canal, was finally on its way towards the Mediterranean after breaking free this afternoon.

A massive operation involving 15 tugboats, a dredger and a now world-famous digger, along with two spring tides, succeeded in pulling it away from the canal’s banks.

The stern was freed in the early hours of this morning, swinging away into mid-stream.
