In 1993, a mysterious unrated black player who called himself John von Neumann, after the famous mathematician played in the 1993 World open. He beat a Fide master, drew a six-time Icelandic Champion grandmaster. In his last round, he lost by just sitting there after move 9. His opponents became suspicious and reported him because he wore headphones and had a large bulge in his pocket which buzzed at critical moments during his games. He also used the same amount of time to think on every move, even in the opening. He was later quizzed by the tournament director and could not even spot a back rank checkmate. He was disqualified and to this day, we still don't know his identity.
