He talked about efforts the Biden administration has made to encourage press freedom around the world, as well as within the U.S. Mr. Blinken’s appearance was briefly interrupted by protesters in support of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Also speaking at the event were journalists from Iran, Belarus, Nigeria, and Myanmar who talked about their experiences with government officials and in some cases arrest and torture in retaliation for their journalistic work.
