Fire Extinguished at Thermal Power Plant on Russian Island

A fire broke out at a thermal power plant on Russia’s Sakhalin island on Saturday, April 30.

Local officials said that 14 firefighters and a helicopter battled the blaze, which spread to the roof of the Sakhalinskaya GRES-2 plant. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The Sakhalin Governor, Valery Limarenko, posted that the fire in the turbine compartment was extinguished. Limarenko said there were no casualties or disruptions to the power supply.
