Dr. Galland is internationally recognized as a medical innovator and pioneer. He is a global leader in applying nutritional science to clinical medicine and in 2005 was invited to create the chapter on "Functional Foods", which are foods with special health benefits, for the world-renowned Encyclopedia of Human Nutrition. His ground-breaking work includes the impact of diet on inflammation and the relationship between intestinal microbes (the gut microbiome) and health. In 1985, he began developing an award-winning, trail-blazing model for clinical practice called Person-Centered Diagnosis, which has influenced thousands of health practitioners around the world.

A board-certified internist, Dr. Galland was educated at Harvard University and the New York University School of Medicine and trained in internal medicine at the New York University-Bellevue Medical Center. He subsequently held faculty positions at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, NY, the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, and completed a fellowship in behavioral medicine at the University of Connecticut, before serving as director of clinical research at the Gesell Institute of Human Development in New Haven, CT.

Since 1985, Dr. Galland has maintained a private consulting practice in New York, NY, and since 1997 has served as the director of the Foundation for Integrated Medicine in New York City. The mission of the foundation is to improve healthcare by integrating advances in nutritional, environmental, and behavioral science into clinical practice, professional training, and public education with an aim to empower consumers and healthcare professionals in the use of integrated medicine for the effective prevention and treatment of illness, and to achieve well-being and longevity.

Dr. Galland's successes in integrated medicine have landed him on the pages of The New York Times, the Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. Dr. Galland has published six books on topics in health care. His most recent, The Allergy Solution: The Surprising Hidden Truth about Why You Are Sick and How to Get Well (2016), co-written with his son, Jonathan Galland, is an international bestseller that explores the shocking rise of asthma, sinusitis, and food allergies, and reveals the hidden allergies that lead to unexplained weight gain, anxiety, fatigue, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression, digestive problems, and much more. Previous books include "The Heartburn and Indigestion Solution" in 2008, "Gastrointestinal Dysregulation: Connection to Chronic Disease" in 2008, "The Fat Resistance Diet" in 2005, "Power Healing" in 1997, and "Superimmunity for Kids" in 1988. An elected Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Nutrition, he is also the recipient of numerous awards throughout his career, including the Seelig Magnesium Award from the American College of Nutrition in 2013, the Clinician Award from the National Nutritional Foods Association in 2004 , the Linus Pauling Award from the Institute of Functional Medicine in 2000, and the Harold Harper Award in Preventive Medicine from the American College for Advancement in Medicine in 1989.
