Coach Bobby Gould had kicked Savage out of the team following the midfielder's appearance on Sky TV on Friday, when he threw away a shirt belonging to Italian skipper Paolo Maldini. Savage was told to leave the team hotel by Gould at 08.40 GMT on Saturday morning, leaving Wales with a 17-man squad. But Gould later had a change of heart and re-instated him on the bench. A statement, released by the Football Association of Wales had earlier read: "During the interview, Savage was seen to be both disrespectful to his team-mates and highly derogatory to the great Italian defender Paolo Maldini by throwing away his shirt." Gould said: "Players must realise that they have a duty to put-up on the field of play and shut-up off it, otherwise this game, which is loved by millions, will be in very serious trouble indeed." |
