Cheltenham Town have signed defender Harry Hooman on a one-year deal.

Hooman, 20, was released by Shrewsbury Town at the end of last season but has impressed Robins manager Mark Yates during a recent trial.

The centre-half told BBC Gloucestershire: "I'm delighted to sign. I've really enjoyed pre-season and feel I've done all right."

Yates added: "We're going to work on him. He's desperate for the chance to prove a couple of people wrong."

Of the trial process, Hooman added: "You have to impress. You have to stand out otherwise you won't get a deal at the club. If you're not better than what they've got then you won't get a deal. Hopefully, they'll see something they like.

"But there's still more to come.

"I'll just work hard in training and take my opportunity if it comes."

"At Shrewsbury promotion was a must and they missed out, and this season it's a must too, so there's a lack of opportunities for the younger players.

"Definitely I've got a point to prove."

Hooman, who signed a first-year professional contract at Shrewsbury at the beginning of the 2009/10 season, spent time on loan at Blue Square Bet North side Hinckley last season.
