Geraghty rode a treble at Cork, with the middle leg, David Wachman’s Pageboy, bringing up the milestone for the Grand National winning jockey.
And while that was pretty much an armchair ride, he showed in sealing his treble on Prunella Dobbs’ Face Facts that he remains at the top of his game.
Having jumped the last in fourth, he got an amazing run out of his mount to get up close home.
“Prunella was concerned about the ground for him and he wasn’t finding it easy until we got to the second-last. I still needed to wing the last, but he did and he fair flew,” said Geraghty.
“I’d brought up my 1,000th on David Wachman’s horse, Pageboy.
“My wife asked me how many other jocks had ridden 1,000 just in Ireland and, while I’m not certain, I think there might only be Charlie (Swan), Ruby (Walsh) and Paul Carberry.
“I only had one goal when I set out riding and that was 1,000 winners. People say Gold Cups and Grand Nationals, which I’ve been fortunate enough to win, but you never know if those opportunities will come.
“If I had to pick some highlights out most of them would be Moscow Flyer. But I had some good days on Kicking King and Macs Joy, too.
“Of course Monty’s Pass was a great day when we won the National and winning an Irish Hennessy on Alexander Banquet was great.”
Geraghty regularly travels across to England, where he enjoys a terrific relationship with Nicky Henderson.
Among his mouthwatering mounts this season will be Sprinter Sacre, stunning winner of the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham in March.
Geraghty said: “Retirement is the last thing on my mind, especially when you look at the talent at Nicky Henderson’s yard this season.
“I love what I’m doing so here’s to the next 1,000.”
