The best bread knife I've ever owned. Stays incredibly sharp. I own other knives in Wusthof's Classic Ikon range of products and they are very high quality knives. Opinions will differ regarding whether this is a suitable knife for cutting delicate fruits such as tomatoes, but I will admit to using it for that purpose when I was in a pinch. It makes amazing, near paper-thin slices of tomato. I also bake all my own bread and this knife goes through thick, crusty European-style crusts as if they are made of butter. No sawing or struggling. All the Ikon knives are beautifully balanced and weighted--substantial but light in one's grip. The Classic Ikon 9" serrated bread knife is a truly great cutting implement and worth the investment of the price.

I've had a number of bread knives over the years, and this is the best one I've ever used. Its heft and feel are perfect for me--I have relatively large hands and strong hands, and it is very sharp. I bake all of my own bread using a Tartine style of baking which results in a thick and crunchy crust--this knife cuts the bread perfectly.

I used to have a set of Wusthof Classic knives, and the only thing I didn't like so much was the handle. I have large hands, and I felt like the "classic" knife handle grip on the Classic line would rotate too easily in my hand, especially if I was using a lot of force on the knife (like cutting through a huge squash). The last thing you want is for the knife blade to slip sideways while you're cutting. The Ikon handle seems to fix that issue for me, it's a bit larger and much better shaped for the inside grip of a hand. Perfectly balanced, beautifully finished, and still a reasonable price-point.
