• ▪ José Baselga, MD, Director of Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Radiation Oncology at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona, the Rosenthal Family Foundation Award.



• ▪ Joseph R. Bertino, MD, Interim Director and Chief Scientific Officer at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Joseph H. Burchenal Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievements in Clinical Research.



• ▪ Sydney Brenner, PhD, Senior Distinguished Fellow of the Crick-Jacobs Center at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, the Irving-Weinstein Foundation Distinguished Lectureship.



• ▪ Arul Chinnaiyan, MD, PhD, the S.P. Hicks Endowed Professor of Pathology and Professor of Pathology and Urology at the University of Michigan Medical School, the AACR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cancer Research.



• ▪ Nancy Davidson, MD, Professor of Oncology and Breast Cancer Research Chair at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Institute, with joint appointments in biochemistry and molecular biology at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the 2007–2008 ASCO President, was selected to give the Women in Cancer Research-Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship.



• ▪ John E. Dick, PhD, Canada Research Chair in Stem Cell Biology in the Division of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Toronto General Research Institute/University Health Network/Princess Margaret Hospital/OCI; and Professor of Medical Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Toronto, the G.H.A. Clowes Memorial Award.



• ▪ Arthur Gutierrez-Hartmann, MD, Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry at the University of Colorado Cancer Center, the Minorities in Cancer Research-Jane Cooke Wright Lectureship.
• ▪ Robert N. Hoover, MD, ScD, SM, HyG, Director of the NCI's Epidemiology and Biostatistics Program, the American Cancer Society Award for Research Excellence in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention.



• ▪ Arnold J. Levine, PhD, Professor in the School of Natural Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study and Professor of Pediatrics and Biochemistry at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Kirk A. Landon-AACR Prize for Basic Cancer Research, in recognition of his work in establishing p53 as a tumor-suppressor gene, as well as his contributions to the understanding of the molecular basis of cancer.
• ▪ Lawrence A. Loeb, MD, PhD, Professor of Pathology and Biochemistry at the University of Washington, was selected to give the Princess Takamatsu Memorial Lectureship, supported by the Princess Takamatsu Cancer Research Fund.



• ▪ Carlo Maley, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Oncogenesis at the Wistar Institute, the first Landon Foundation-AACR Innovator Award for Cancer Prevention Research.
• ▪ John Mendelsohn, MD, President of the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, the Dorothy P. Landon-AACR Prize for Translational Cancer Research, recognized for illuminating the role of growth factors in cell proliferation as well as the development of a new field of therapy and the first drug of its kind, cetuximab, to block that process.



• ▪ Daniel Pinkel, PhD, Professor-in-Residence at the University of California San Francisco Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Senior Scientist at Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, along with his team of researchers, received the Team Science Award for their pioneering development of comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) and array CGH.
• ▪ Ellen V. Sigal, PhD, Chairperson of Friends of Cancer Research, the AACR Margaret Foti Award for Leadership and Extraordinary Achievements in Cancer Research.



• ▪ Steven R. Tannenbaum, PhD, the Underwood-Prescott Professor of Toxicology, Biological Engineering Division; and Professor of Chemistry at MIT, the AACR-CICR Award for Outstanding Achievement in Chemistry in Cancer Research.
• ▪ Alex Ullrich, PhD, Director of Molecular Biology at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany, the Pezcoller Foundation-AACR International Award for Cancer Research.
• ▪ Harald zur Hausen, DSc, MD, the AACR Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his research demonstrating the role of HPV in cervical cancer and linking HPV to several other cancers including laryngeal carcinoma, penile carcinoma, and epidermal dysplasia.



• ▪ The Landon Foundation-Innovator Award for International Collaboration in Cancer Research was presented to a team of genetics, thoracic oncology, geology, and pathology experts working in the US and Turkey: Lead researcher Michele Carbone, MD, PhD, and Haining Yang, PhD, University of Hawaii; Nancy Cox, PhD, and Ian Steele, PhD, University of Chicago; Harvey Pass, MD, NYU School of Medicine and Clinical Cancer Center; Joseph Testa, PhD, Fox Chase Cancer Center; Y. Izzetin Baris, MD, University of Hacettepe in Ankara, Turkey; A. Umran Dogan, PhD, University of Iowa; and Salih Emri, MD, and Murat Tuncer, MD, Hacettepe University School of Medicine.
