Scotland will play in their pink away kit when they face Slovakia at Hampden on Thursday evening.

STV understands Gordon Strachan's side are forced to wear the bright change shirt to avoid a clash with Slovakia's kit.

The visitors' white shirt would clash with the white sleeves of Scotland's home kit and their pale blue away shirt is also deemed unsuitable.

Scotland have played in the pink shirt in two qualifiers so far, winning neither. The team wore the kit in the away matches against England and Slovakia, losing both 3-0.

They also played in pink in friendlies against France and Italy in 2015. They lost 3-0 to France and 1-0 against Italy.

There has been one victory wearing the shirt. Ikechi Anya's goal gave Scotland a 1-0 win away against the Czech Republic in a friendly last year.

The national team need to take a positive result from the match on Thursday to keep alive their chances of reaching the World Cup play-offs.

Wins against Slovakia and in Slovenia on Sunday would guarantee a second-placed finish in the group.
