Description

The Rhodes Building was built in 1911 using £100,000 left to Oriel College for that purpose by former student Cecil Rhodes In the front façade is in the central bay a statue of Cecil Rhodes, and two kings, and in the side bays four other statues. Below the statue of Rhodes is a chronogram for 1911: e Larga MVnIfICentIa | CaeCILI rhoDes (Out of the splendid generosity of Cecil Rhodes).
