The Ten Best Readers Endings

6. Star Control II

It's hard to imagine any GameSpot "ten best" list for which Accolade's classic Star Control II wouldn't be a valid candidate. And, as shown by the number of comments that said "this is my favorite game ever," you all agree.

"Star Control II has the best ending I have ever seen. Its humorous and irreverent ending perfectly fit the style of the game. It was highly amusing seeing the various characters claim how the sequel would be all about them." - Seth Insley

"[The ending] was funny, and it was a brilliant lead-in to the next game in the series, which, sadly, wasn't anywhere near so brilliant." - Rob Lim

"It's a great climax to one of the greatest games and game stories ever written. The final battle for the future of all races is a not a battle to be taken lightly. Plus the humorous scenes by Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III are not to be missed. Oh yeah, and you get the chick. Nuts, now I gotta go play Star Control II again." - Will Hertel

"Good on you for picking Star Control II. The best game ever written, with an awesome plot, a genuinely challenging final battle, and the whole galaxy at stake. The countdown to the Sa-Matra's explosion and the perfectly selected music, then silence, and a tiny flash in the distance at the detonation, followed by the shock wave screaming toward you. Wow." - Chris Proctor

"The story behind Star Control II was superb. More often it felt like an adventure, rather than an adventure game. Yet the game took it a step further with the finale. The climactic destruction of the Sa-Matra could've left the players with enough sense of conclusion, but instead, there were witty, humorous conclusions describing the fate of each and every race. Now if only Star Control III had been that great... " - Adam White

"The final battle brought together all the preparation and all the mysteries and secrets you sought out during the game in a heart-pounding, tense fight against the Kohr-Ah and Kzer-Za Ur-Quan, and then the Sa-Matra itself. The Sa-Matra turned out to be a challenge, but was beatable with any one of several strategies (my favorite being the Pkunk Fury flyby). The end sequence tied up the story very nicely, and with the humor you'd come to expect." - Jesse Robb
