1. What is the expected date of completion for the new building?

1. What is the expected date of completion for the new building?

The building is expected to be populated by CCI staff in August 2007, and will be open in time for student enrolment in September 2007.

2. Will all my study be based at Cardiff or will I have to commute between the two campuses?

All students will study exclusively at the ATRiuM building in the heart of Cardiff. The only necessity to commute between the two campuses may occur where students are studying a joint or combined course whereby a module/element of their studies is housed within one of the other University Faculties and therefore may be taught at the Treforest campus.

3. Where is the accommodation in Cardiff and what exactly are the room prices and is there an en suite facility?*

4. When can the student accommodation be viewed?

The accommodation can be viewed at any time during business hours via appointment.

5. Will there be private sector accommodation available and who will be dealing with the vetting of landlords and assessing suitability?

There will be private sector accommodation available and the University will be using the same methods of vetting landlords/suitability etc. which are currently successfully employed.

6. Will there be transport provided between the two campuses?

The University is currently looking at the possible requirements for students needing to travel between the Cardiff and Treforest campuses due to either study commitments or as part of their membership of a club/society or sports team.

The issue of transportation between the Cardiff and Treforest campuses is being considered specifically with regards to minimising the inconvenience and additional cost to students.

7. What are the parking facilities like in Cardiff?

Whilst there is no University owned car parking for students, there are a number of large parks in the surrounding area including a large NCP car park directly opposite the new building.

8. Will there be a Student Union in Cardiff?

The Students Union are currently negotiating special ‘Glamorgan’ deals with various venues in Cardiff to ensure your social activities are well catered for. We are also in discussion with other Students Union’s in the Cardiff area with a view to offering possible full memberships for Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries students.

The new building will cover all aspects of student union provision including NUS membership, sales of tickets, clubs & Societies, and other student related issues.

9. What catering facilities will be provided?

The ATRiuM will have a purpose built Café/Refectory specifically for its students and staff. In addition we are within 100 yards of Cardiff city centre which has literally 100’s of food outlets to cater for any tastes and budget.

10. Are there changing and shower facilities for students who commute in by bicycle?

At present there are no plans to introduce shower facilities within the new ATRiuM building.

11. What sports facilities will be available to those students studying in Cardiff?

The University has linked with the Marriott Hotel in Cardiff to offer a superb membership opportunity for University of Glamorgan students who are studying at the ATRiuM. The Marriott Hotel is located within five minutes walking distance of the ATRiuM and has a fantastic Health Club which is available at discount prices for students.

Facilities include a heated swimming pool, fully equiped gym, health spa (steam room/sauna) and hot tub.

The membership cost which has been negotiated specifically for students studying in Cardiff is just £29 per month, and includes full use of all the above facilities in addition to the other benefits listed below.

The Health Club is open from 6.00am until 11.00pm, 365 days per year. This means that students can even use the facilities during vacation time.

Students will be able to join the Marriott Health Club from the beginning of enrolment week commencing on the 24th September. Full joining instructions and application forms will be available from the ATRiuM.

In addition to these agreements, all students will have the opportunity to join the student sports teams at the University. All sports teams are organised by the Students Union and the annual Clubs and Societies Day will be held on Friday 28th September in the Sports Centre at the Universities Treforest Campus.

All University sports teams will be represented at this event and free buses will be organised between the Cardiff and Treforest Campuses for students interested in attending. More information on the times of buses will be provided during enrolment week.

12. Will all the support services (accommodation, finance, student services) etc still be based at Treforest?

There will be access available to all of the above support services plus the Chaplaincy service and Student Advice Shop at the Cardiff campus. The level of access will vary from day to day but there will be regular and well promoted ‘clinics’ and when staff aren’t physically on hand, students will be able contact a relevant member of staff on the Treforest campus by phone or via e-mail using supplied facilities on site.

13. Will we enrol in Cardiff or Treforest?

All students except for those studying on Art courses or the Foundation Degree in Creative Industries course will enrol in Cardiff

14. How far is the student accommodation from the Cardiff campus?

This varies depending on the particular hall of residence but the distance varies from around 100 yards to 1.5miles. Private sector accommodation can be any distance as chosen by students/applicants. For more information visit our accommodation pages

15. What are the approximate student numbers who will study in Cardiff?

The estimated student population of the new CCI building will be around 2,200 students across all courses and modes of study.

16. Will all students automatically transfer down to Cardiff? In other words, will Year 1 (new intake) start there and the other years follow later?

ALL students (except for Art Practice and Foundation Degree in Creative Industries) will study at the new Cardiff building from September 2007

17. Will there be a library at the Cardiff campus, or will students have to come to Treforest to access books?

There will be a library at the Cardiff campus which will contain all of the facilities available to students studying at Treforest including the full range of books, journals, newspapers and multimedia required by Creative Industries students in order to complete their studies.

There will also be a 24 hour book delivery service provided for CCI students in Cardiff, whereby if a book required is available at the Treforest campus it will be delivered to the Cardiff LRC for collection by the student within 24 hours.

18. Can Cardiff University library be used?

There will be no need for students to use the Cardiff University library as all required facilities will be included within the ATRiuM building.

19. Will there be any teaching at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, and will students be able to use facilities there?

Teaching for all CCI students (except those studying Art Practice and the FD Creative Industries) will take place at the ATRiuM building. There will be no requirement for students to use any of the study facilities at the Royal Welsh College as these will also be provided within the new ATRiuM building.

20. Will there be computer facilities (i.e. labs) in Cardiff, or will it be necessary to travel to Treforest?

There will be a substantial number of computer labs in the new ATRiuM building. The Computer facilities available for students at the ATRiuM will be comparable if not better than those already available for students at the Treforest Campus.
