Cardiff City are delighted by the news that we are to stage a Wales v Scotland international match at the club's new stadium on Saturday, November 14.

This is another landmark for the new ground, which was officially opened in July this year and has attracted bumper crowds for Cardiff City's Championship matches this season.

City chairman and chief executive Peter Ridsdale said: "We always endeavour to help Welsh football and it will be an honour to stage the Wales v Scotland match.

"It will be especially poignant in view of the fact that when he was Scotland manager, Jock Stein died during a match against Wales at our old Ninian Park ground in 1985." 

The November meeting may well be a showcase for City's big Scottish contingent. Keeper David Marshall is in George Burley's squad for the Kirin Challenge Cup against Japan in Tokyo on Saturday. The Bluebirds also have midfielder Gavin Rae and winger Chris Burke currently in the team, with full back Kevin McNaughton and striker Ross McCormack on their way back to fitness. Full back Alan Quinn joined us from Motherwell during the summer.

Wales played their first-ever international against Scotland in Glasgow in 1876. The countries clashed regularly in the Home International tournament, which was wound up in the 1980s, but have met only four times in the past 24 years.

There were two World Cup qualifiers in 1985, and Wales won 1-0 in a friendly in Kilmarnock in 1997. Their most recent meeting was at the Millennium Stadium in 2004, when Earnie scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 Wales win.
