BLESSED CITY: A lady displays a placard on Jinja Road
HUNDREDS of Christians yesterday gathered in various parts of Kampala to bless the city and residents, writes Harriette Onyalla.
Over 40 churches are participating in the Kampala City of God campaign, which is spearheaded by First Daughter Patience Rwabogo. Patience is the pastor of the Covenant Nations Church.
By 10:00am, groups of between 30 and 50 Christians were stationed at strategic places in the city. Standing in circles, they raised their hands to the Lord and prayed for Ugandas capital city.
One of the teams blessed mayor Al Hajji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala at his office.
We are here to take our place as Christians in this city. The Bible says that through the blessings of the upright, a city is exalted. So we are blessing our city. Many people have lost hope in the destiny of Kampala. We are not able to do much but God can transform our city beyond our wildest dreams, said Ann Muhanguzi, a member of the organising committee.
The chairman of the organising committee, Joseph Okia, said the three-day event was aimed at branding Kampala the city of God.
If you go to places like Paris and other cities in the world, they have been branded the city of glamour. For Kampala, we are declaring it the city of God, he said.
President Yoweri Museveni and Kampala City Council officials are expected to join Christians at a praise rally at Kololo Airstrip tomorrow.
