Bucharest stopped on 108 out of 215 in a top of the cities with the best life quality, while other cities in the region went up, the results of the annual survey drawn up by Mercer show. In the region, Zagred went up from 106 to 103, Bratislava went up three positions up to 88, Ljubljana reached position 78, from 82. The only capital city in the European Union which is under Bucharest is Sofia which went up four positions up to 113. Other European cities which were placed under the level of Romanias capital city are : Beograd ( 137), Sarajevo ( 157), Skopje ( 151), Kiev ( 162), Sankt Petersbourg ( 164) and Moscow (168).The first in the top is Vienna, followed by Zurich and Geneva. The first ten places are dominated by German and Swiss cities, out of which many kept their position from last year. Zurich, on the second position is followed by Geneva ( third place), Dusseldorf ( sixth place), Munchen ( seventh place), Frankfurt ( eigth place) and Berne ( nineth place). For the first time in the history of this study, the cities were classified depending on the infrastructure. Among the criteria was access to electricity, running water, sewage, phone and internet network, public transport, traffic and flights on the local airport. The place occupied by Bucharest at the top of infrastructure is 114, being after other cities in the region, such as Budapest with 74, immediately after Rome and other 2 positions higher than Prague, 76th. Bucharest is before Sofia ( 144) or Zagreb, (117) which suffers due to a network of subterranean transport. The Mercer study covers in 2009 215 important cities on the globe and New York is the reference city. This study is used by multinational companies in the decision-making process on compensations offered to their employees to different countries on the globe.
