Can the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) redeem its credibility this year?

The music awards became controversial last year when SM Entertainment boycotted the show and none of its artists won in any category except for TVXQ, whose award was accepted by Xian Junsu, Micky Yoochun and Youngwoong Jaejoong, who are in legal dispute with SME.

The MAMA imposed a “no show, no award" policy that time, thus SME artists registered no wins. Artists from JYP Entertainment and YG Entertainment won the major awards including 2NE1, which won the Song of the Year. 2PM was adjudged as Artist of the Year and G-Dragon won the Album of the Year.

There’s no word yet if SME artists will attend this year’s show that will be broadcast live from Macau on November 28.

Curiously, SME artists are still nominated in various categories. Super Junior is up against 2PM, BEAST, 2AM and MBLAQ in the Male Group Award category.

Girls Generation has been nominated in the Female Group Award category along with 2NE1, 4Minute, KARA and T-ara.

In the Male Singer Award, nominees are Rain, Se7en, Taeyang, Wheesung and PSY.
