The Collection

The core of the collections of the Teloglion Foundation of Art is the donation of Nestor and Aliki Telloglou to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. They donated their rich collection of works of art and their entire estate for the creation of a foundation that would promote art.

The private art collection of the Telloglou couple includes works of art from various civilizations: statuettes, especially from the Hellenistic period, Corinthian, Hellenistic and Roman pottery, Persian miniatures, samples of Arabic and Chinese art (vases, panels, dishes) as well as woodreliefs from Thailand. The main body of the collection is works of art by important Greek and European artists of the 19th and 20th century. The techniques vary: oil on canvas, drawings, prints, sculptures. It is worth noting the collection of the ceramic work of Panos Valsamakis.

After the creation of the Teloglion Foundation of Art, the collection was enriched with the acquisition of works of art and sculpture representative of the Greek contemporary art of the 19th and 20th century. Also, an important part of the collection is the donation received by the Foundation from artists and art lovers as Tonis and Ioanna Spiteris, who donated their archive, art collection and the artistic work of Ioanna Spiteris.

In 2001, the collector Demetrios Tsamis donated to the Foundation part of his collection, which includes exceptional oil paintings, sculptures and engravings. In addition, other collectors have donated art works and several artists have donated samples of their work to the Foundation.

Thus, the collection of the Teloglion Foundation of Art possesses representative samples of the Eptanesian School of the 18th century (Cantounis) as well as the most important Greek artists of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century (Gysis, Savidis, Ioannides, Lytras, Parthenis, Steris, Kontoglou, Maleas). The most important Greek artists of the 20th century, such as Spyropoulos, Bouzianis, Tsingos, Eggonopoulos, Mytaras and many others are also represented. There are many works of art by artists from Thessaloniki, such as Pentzikis, Paralis, Nikos and Xenis Sachines, Venetoulias, Loustas.

The collection of the Foundation also includes the monumental work of art "The World of Cyprus" by Diamandis, which is permanently exhibited in the museum gallery. Sculpture is represented by the artworks of Sclavos, Capralos, Pastra, Armakola, Kambadaki, Koulendianos and others. The collection of works of art on paper (prints, drawings etc.), which has been enriched by the Spiteris donation and recently by the Tsamis donation, is a distinguished one.
