City welcome Lewis on loan

Gloucester City have signed attacking midfielder Theo Lewis on a one month loan from Cheltenham Town.

20 year-old Theo has been unable to break into the Cheltenham Town first team this season and has had just two substitute appearances in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy versus Wycombe and Barnet. Lewis will be in contention to play Guiseley for tomorrow’s BlueSquare North fixture and it’s an opportunity Theo is ready to grasp.

“I haven’t really played at all this season and it’s obviously frustrating,” he said. “It was a no brainer when the opportunity came to join Gloucester and I want to grab it with both hands. It’s a good level of football and a few of the boys here recommended that it would be a good move for me.

“It’s going to be a new experience for me and I’m looking forward to it.”

Theo has made 43 appearances in total during his career here at Cheltenham Town and has scored once in an FA Cup tie versus Torquay United.

Gloucester City manager Dave Mehew said he was pleased to be able to secure Theo for the coming month.

He said: “With Adam Mann injured and Darren Edwards with a suspension to come its a great signing for us. Theo has an eye for a goal and that’s what I like to see in a player, hopefully he’ll bag a few while he’s with us.”

Development Squad and Youth striker Joe Parker will join the squad for Monday’s Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup tie against Cheltenham but Matt Liddiard is unavailable for selection due to work commitments.

Also joining City is 24-year-old goalkeeper Chris Humphries from Evo-Stik League Southern Division One South & West side Mangotsfield United, he will go straight into Monday’s squad as Lewis Carey is cup-tied for the competition, having already played for Bristol City.
