Spencer becomes boss Mark Yates' eighth new signing of the summer, with three more expected before the start of the new season on August 6, one of which is likely to be a loan goalkeeper.

Spencer, 19, enjoyed a successful temporary spell at Morecambe last season and has also represented Northwich Victoria.

He has been on Huddersfield's books since the age of seven and signed a new two-year deal with the League One club in May.

Leeds-born Spencer is a strong, 6ft 1in forward who will provide competition for Jeff Goulding, Kaid Mohamed, Ethan Moore and fellow new recruit Darryl Duffy, who arrived yesterday.

Spencer was the subject of a six-figure bid from Manchester City during his time in Huddersfield's academy.

Cheltenham are set to announce two more new signings on Monday morning.

“Not seen Spencer in action - but at 6ft 1in and still only 19, this lad could be a force to be reckoned with. If he gives even half the effort and commitment to his Robins' cause as his namesake Damien did, then this lad could go far.”

“..blimey...well done Yatesy. Two more to arrive on Monday. Even if the parent clubs assist with wages in respect of the loanees, (I presume they do ?), can we afford all the new players ?? If I know Mr Baker hopefully as I think I do then that's all catered for. My optimism for a season other than just survival grows........”
