Gucci Store to Host Exhibit of Jojo Manga's Araki

Exhibit features Hirohiko Araki's new 16-page color manga in women's fashion mag Spur, life-size Rohan Kishibe figure

The Shinjuku Gucci store in Tokyo will host an exhibition featuring art from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga creator Hirohiko Araki from September 17 to October 6. The event is being held to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Gucci's founding and the accompanying revamp of the Shinjuku store.

The "Gucci x Hirohiko Araki x Spur 'Kishibe Rohan Gucci e Iku' Exhibition" event will feature original fashion illustrations from Araki, and a life-size figure of Rohan Kishibe, a fictional manga creator who appeared in the fourth part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and other Araki works. Araki drew six original illustrations for the exhibition featuring clothing, bags, and sneakers from Gucci's 2011-2012 Fall/Winter collection.

The exhibition will also display the 16-page full-color one-shot "Kishibe Rohan Gucci e Iku" (Rohan Kishibe Goes to Gucci) spinoff manga Araki drew for the October issue of the women's fashion magazine Spur, which shipped in Japan on Tuesday. Araki drew a special cover illustration for the magazine (pictured at right).

This year, Araki is celebrating his 30th year as a manga creator and the 25th anniversary of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. The eighth part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, JoJolion, launched in Shueisha's Ultra Jump magazine in May. Viz Media published the 16th manga volume in North America last December, and Super Techno Arts released the original video anime series version until a controversy arose over an image of the Qur'an in the sixth episode.
