Clarissa Dickson-Wright

Clarissa Dickson Wright, one of the chefs on the BBC’s Two Fat Ladies, died Saturday in Edinburgh, Scotland, BBC News reports. She was 66. A cause of death was not disclosed.

Two Fat Ladies featured Wright and Jennifer Paterson (who died of cancer in 1999) traveling around Great Britain on a motorbike and highlighting regional dishes.

Born in London, Wright studied law and became the country’s youngest barrister at age 21. In her later years, she struggled with alcoholism, was eventually disbarred and became homeless in the early 1980s.

After attending a recovery program, Wright and Paterson were approached by a TV producer about making a series. Two Fat Ladies premiered on BBC Two in 1996 and ended after Paterson’s death in 1999. It also aired in the States on the Food Network and the Cooking Channel.
