An inspirational drama filmed at Wrexham’s Racecourse, depicting the life of former Stoke City kit man Neil Baldwin, has won two Bafta awards.

Marvellous, shown on BBC2, was a touching exploration of the life of Baldwin who, despite learning difficulties and previously working as a circus clown, became a key morale boosting figure in the Potters’ changing rooms.

It picked up best single drama at the Baftas on Sunday, while Gemma Jones, who played Baldwin’s mother Mary, won best supporting actress.

Part of the drama was filmed at Wrexham’s Racecourse ground.

A spokesman for Glyndŵr University, who own the ground, said: “The Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium has a proud history as a sports venue and now it gets to add two Baftas to the long list of achievements it has been associated with in its long and distinguished existence.

“We are delighted that the producers of Marvellous chose to film at the stadium and congratulate everyone involved with the programme on winning the awards.”
