Godflesh Artwork Descriptions

One of the new sections created for the launch of www.Godflesh.com, this section will list and describe artwork from Godflesh releases.

I've used the help of The Internet Movie DataBase (IMDB) in creating this section. Each section there is a link to that site's movie info. There you can find out more about the actors, directors and storyline of each film.

Finally, this section is still incomplete, and if you know of something not listed here, or would like to submit a review, please let me know. Enjoy!

Godflesh

Source: Seconds (1966) [more info]
Cape Fear (1991) [more info]
Description: Both films contained the same intro. Seconds featured Rock Hudson. Cape Fear is the remake of the 1962 original, featuring Robert DeNiro.
Scene: This intro of both movies shows a person's face from various perspectives. In this image, the character looks up. At the moment where he stares into the camera, the band shot the image.
Streetcleaner

Description: This movie features William Hurt, (Drew Barrymore is in there too), is an adaptation of a novel by Paddy Chayefsky. The film can be described as, "different mind states and subsequent bodily changes due to chemical and physical stimulus" (quote from IMDB)
Scene: This scene is what the main character sees during one of his psychedelic trips.

Scene: Same as above. This image was the original cover for Streetcleaner, but the band decided it wasn't a clear enough shot for their liking.

Description: I'm unsure which movie this image is from, but it is from director George Kuchar. The movie is only 10-15 minutes long, is black and white, and is silent. Basically, a man (see also Cold World) chases a woman around, and she escapes him.
Scene: Unknown. This is the woman's face from the film.

Description: I saw this film ages ago, and it didn't make much sense to me. Anyone?
Scene: Unknown. Just a picture of a building? The image isn't very clear.

Slavestate

Source: Head (1968) [more info]
Description: Head was a movie about the life of the band The Monkees. It was written by the band themselves, and tells the story of their coming to fame.
Scene: I believe this image was from a crazy party scene in the film, and the character you see is not sober, not by a long shot. The blank look on the face captured Justin and Ben's eye immediately. They tried to get a clean image numerous times, and the static filled image was the best attempt.

Description: This image is from a live date in London in 1991 where Godflesh was opening for Nirvana (ugh). Paul Neville can be seen playing in this image.

Scene: Like the other images from this inlay, this is where the girl finally escapes the man, or perhaps when he realizes that he won't catch her. Here, the man stands miserably. Another perfect image for a Godflesh cover!

Description: I don't know much about this image, except that it is from an old statue, covered in plants.

Scene: Can't remember, just a spooky decapitated statue.

Description: As described in the inlay, it is a human nerve cell growing on a computer chip. Upon close inspection you can see where someone colored in the cell, and a fingerprint on the image.

Source: Cancer Alley, New Orleans, LA
Description: This image was once featured on the cover of National Geographic magazine. It has a factory in the distance, and a cemetary in the front. It seems that the people all work at this factory where many get cancer, and then they die. Hrm?
