Elizabeth I confirms previous grants of privileges to the Burgesses of Cardiff. Reciting: Charter of Confirmation, 12 Mar 1580/1581, Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, and wife Ann, to the Burgesses of Cardiff, Itself reciting Edward IV's Charter of Confirmation, 27 Mar 1465 [see Charter '10'] [Contemporary annotation: examined by Matthew Carew and W. Lambarde, Clerks] [Witnessed at Westminster] [Latin] [Endorsed: 'An Exemplification at the requeste of Thomas Bassett, gent. Salter'] [2mm., parchment, 27' x 22' and 27' x 14 1/2'; great seal pendent on parchment seal tag] Observations on condition of parchment: Brittle. Badly creased. Two small tears; one hole in first & second lines of second membrane. Numerous 'rust' marks, particularly on first membrane. Drawing-pin holes in corners. Number '17' scrawled three times on dorse in biro. Considerable fading and 'rubbing' particularly on second membrane. Observations on condition of seal: [Seal repaired at expense of G. T. Clark of Talygarn in 1890.] Heavily repaired; original yellow wax flooded with brownish yellow wax repair material. Devices on seal largely obliterated.
