A 1988-batch IPS officer, Manoj Yadava, currently on central deputation with the Intelligence Bureau, has been appointed Director General of Police, Haryana.

His selection was almost certain. He had already sent his consent for his return to his parent state, indicating that he would be picked for the post - his name being on the panel recommended by the Union Public Service Commission. His tenure will be for a period of two years from the date of assuming charge.

The other two officers shortlisted for the post at a meeting last week were K Selvaraj, a 1985-batch officer, and Krishan Kumar Sindhu, a 1986-batch officer. Yadava's name was approved this evening.

A "hardcore" officer, Yadava joined the IB in February 2003. He has served in Guwahati too. In Haryana, he served as the district police chief in Panchkula, Ambala, Panipat and Fatehabad and also as SP, Traffic and Security, Chandigarh Police (1994-97).

Now, both Principal Secretary to the CM Rajesh Khullar and the DGP belong to the 1988 batch.

With Yadava's selection, a fresh round of transfers is imminent since he supersedes six officers. Also, as per the the Election Commission of India's directive, officers posted in their home districts or those who have completed three years on one post have to be posted out.
