Cadillac CT6 recalled, shown here driving

Cadillac is recalling 22,043 of its 2016-2018 CT6 sedans because excess adhesive on the lower LATCH anchor may make it difficult for owners to install a car seat.

Cadillac recommends that, until the recall repair is performed, owners of affected vehicles install car seats using the vehicle's rear seat belts according to the manufacturer's instructions.

"If parents can't attach to the lower LATCH anchor, there's no need to worry," says Emily Thomas, Ph.D., an automotive safety engineer at Consumer Reports. "In our evaluations of the CT6, we found that in all rear-seating positions, we were able to achieve a secure installation with the seat belt."

Consumers who are not confident in their ability to properly secure their car seat with the seat belt should contact a local child-passenger safety technician for assistance. One can be found through SafeKids and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The Details

Vehicles recalled: Certain Cadillac CT6 sedans made between Sept. 4, 2015, and Sept. 21, 2017.

The problem: During the vehicle assembly process, small amounts of excess structural adhesive may have been accidentally applied to one or both of the vehicle's inboard child-seat anchorage bars, NHTSA says. This can interfere with car seat installation.

The fix: According to Cadillac, dealers will inspect the inboard child-seat LATCH anchors for adhesive. If adhesive is found, the dealer will remove it and apply anti-corrosion primer to the anchor, at no charge to owners.

How to contact the manufacturer: Owners may contact Cadillac at 800-458-8006. Cadillac has not said when it will contact vehicle owners.

NHTSA campaign number: 18V-437. Cadillac's own number for this recall is 18228.

Check to see whether your vehicle has an open recall: Plug in the 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. It will tell you whether your vehicle has any open recalls that need to be addressed.
