Welsh super band Stereophonics are set to rock Wrexham's Glyndwr University Racecourse Ground this summer.

With career sales topping 10 million albums, they will be joined on July 2 by special guests Catfish and the Bottlemen, with further acts to be announced.

They will become the first artists to play a live show at the stadium since the 1982 Wrexham Festival, when hard rock legends Motorhead, Budgie, Tank, Raven, Orion and Twisted Sister powered out the music at the home of the town's football club.

The Stereophonics - Kelly Jones on vocals and guitar, Richard Jones on bass, Adam Zindani on guitar and Jamie Morrison on drums - are regarded as one of the country's top bands, and their latest acclaimed No1 album, Keep The Village Alive, features recent hit singles C'est La Vie, I Wanna Get Lost With You and Song for the Summer.

A spokesman for the group said: "Stereophonics have a huge summer ahead with 10 dates already planned, including a show at Cardiff City stadium on Saturday June 4 and a headline slot at the Isle Of Wight Festival on Friday June 10."

The band have enjoyed a string of number one albums, chart-topping singles and sell-out concerts after they formed in 1992 in the village of Cwmaman in the Cynon Valley.

In July 2012, they gigged at Venue Cymru, Llandudno, as a warm-up ahead of representing Wales at a concert in London's Hyde Park to mark the start of the 2012 Olympic Games.

The group were named after the manufacturer of a record player that had belonged to former band member Stuart Cable's father.

In May 1996, they were the first artists to be signed to newly formed record label V2, created by Richard Branson.

Recent Brit winners for best breakthrough, Catfish and the Bottlemen from Llandudno sold an incredible 12,000 tickets in under five minutes last Friday for their warm up shows in April, with the explosive new single Soundcheck dominating the airwaves ahead of their new album out this spring.

Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am. For more information, visit stereophonics.com.
