THE famous gates from Ninian Park have been erected outside Cardiff City’s new home – minus one of their Bluebirds.

The blue metal gates stood outside the main entrance to Ninian Park, welcoming officials, players and visitors to the club’s reception off Sloper Road.

The gates had been altered to read “Ninian Park 1910-2009” and were such a feature of Bluebirds’ tradition that club bosses decided they should play a role at the Cardiff City Stadium, the 27,000-seater, £48m Leckwith ground where City kick off the new season next month.

It is understood the Bluebird on the left gate was among memorabilia looted from the 99-year-old stadium following this month’s Cardiff City Legends match, which heralded the opening of the new ground.

Witnesses claimed supporters walked way with bits of concrete and broken seats, while one fan smashed out the Bluebird from the gates and kept it as a souvenir.
