A CBS12 News I-Team investigation started with one tip.

We learned there was some questionable information in Palm Beach County Medical Examiner COVID death records, requested the public records ourselves, and found eight deaths incorrectly labeled as COVID deaths, including a gun shot wound to the head.

That investigation led to procedural changes at the ME’s office, including more quality assurance checks.

Here’s how it started: a friend of Rachel Eade emailed us and told us she had been researching COVID deaths in Palm Beach County, and something wasn’t adding up.

Eade is a Palm Beach County resident, business owner, and mother.

She’s also very concerned about policy decisions regarding COVID-19 in her community.

We first met her at Palm Beach County Commission meetings this spring, when she spoke out against the county-wide mask mandate.

Now, she is a plaintiff on the lawsuit against the county, arguing the mask mandate violates civil liberties.

We spoke to her Thursday to ask why she started researching the COVID death records at the Medical Examiner’s office, and what questions she has about the information she found.
