Transforming promising life science ideas into medical breakthroughs that change patients’ lives.

About us

LifeArc® is a medical research charity making life science life changing, transforming promising life science ideas into medical breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. We are self-funding and specialise in early-stage translation – advancing lab-based scientific discoveries to a point at which they can be developed into the next generation of diagnostics, treatments and cures. We have been doing this for more than 25 years and our work has resulted in a diagnostic for antibiotic resistance and four licensed medicines. This includes Keytruda®(cancer), Actemra® (rheumatoid arthritis), Tysabri® (multiple sclerosis) and Entyvio® (Crohn’s disease) and a test for antimicrobial resistance. Today’s announcement highlights the urgent need for investment and scientific support to address the global threat of antimicrobial resistance.   We are pleased to see PACE-AMR recognised as a key contributor to the UK AMR landscape, and the role that our partnership is playing in supporting innovations and overcoming barriers to address unmet needs in AMR.   This action plan reinforces and strengthens the UK’s leading role in addressing AMR, and we will continue to support this vision through PACE and our AMR Translational Challenge. Today we have launched a new plan to tackle antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This national action plan commits the UK to: 🔵 reduce use of antimicrobials 🔵 strengthen surveillance of drug resistant infections before they emerge 🔵 incentivise industry to develop the next generation of treatments See our plan on Confronting Antimicrobial Resistance: https://lnkd.in/e9Xj6NxM #AMR #AntimicrobialResistance UK Research and Innovation, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, UK Health Security Agency, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Cabinet Office

Today is #WorldAsthmaDay 💜 This year’s theme “Asthma Education Empowers” resonates deeply with us at Asthma + Lung UK. We believe that understanding asthma triggers and learning how to effectively deal with them can help people take control of their lung health. Everyone with asthma has their own set of asthma triggers, and what sets off your symptoms, might not set off someone else’s. It’s important to know what your triggers are so that you can avoid them if possible. To support this, we’ve created an infographic highlighting asthma triggers that can set off asthma symptoms. From pollen to air pollution, it sheds light on what can worsen asthma symptoms, empowering people to make informed choices about their environment and lifestyle. Remember, there are many other asthma triggers than those listed, we encourage also visiting our website for a detailed guide: https://bit.ly/3UwAEfR That’s not all. Did you know we have free downloadable asthma action plans? These personalised plans which you complete with your healthcare professional can be invaluable tools in managing asthma effectively, ensuring knowledge of what steps you need to take to keep your symptoms under control and what to do if you have an asthma attack: https://bit.ly/3JJLPLH 🤝 Let’s come together this World Asthma Day to raise awareness, educate and empower. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those living with asthma 💜 #WorldAsthmaDay #AsthmaEducationEmpowers #AsthmaAwareness

Another extraordinary week at LifeArc, with the creation of four new LifeArc Translational Centres for Rare Diseases and the first ever LifeArc Translational Science Summit. Both milestones demonstrate the fundamental importance of translational research and its impact on patients, and underline LifeArc’s unique role as a partner for innovation and research. My gratitude goes to our many great teams at LifeArc who made these developments possible, and to the exceptional speakers and delegates for making the summit such a success with inspiring sessions, insightful panels and moving presentations. #LATSS2024
