Kathy Griffin found herself in hot water with The View‘s live studio audience after she made an off-handed remark referring to Britney Spears and Kanye West‘s public struggles with mental health.

The comedian appeared on the hit daytime talk show to promote her upcoming stand-up tour. But it wasn’t lost on her that she’s had a difficult road to redemption after posting an infamous photo of herself holding a bloody replica of former President Donald Trump‘s head.

“Six years I was out of work because of that [expletive],” she said as the audio cut out. “All about a picture! A picture I took making fun of the president. Which is what you’re supposed to do as a comic.”

Co-host Sara Haines pointed out that Griffin has “survived so much” over the years, all starting with her “career cancellation” and a “federal investigation over the Trump photo controversy.” Griffin added that she also spent some time on the “no-fly list” and was “stopped at every airport” as a result of the investigation. She was ultimately cleared.

But beyond that, she also struggled with a drug addiction and mental health issues.

“Pill addiction, suicide attempt and I was on a psych hold for three days. I know you can tell why,” Griffin joked. “I was on a psych hold so I was like Britney and Kanye combined. It’s like I walked into my own act.”

A few audience members proceeded to laugh, while the majority audibly groaned at her remark. But like a pro, Griffin kept the segment moving, revealing that she’s now in recovery. She said, “I’m sober three-and-a-half years.”

Spears infamously suffered a breakdown in 2007, which later resulted in her controversial conservatorship and an increased focus on how the media treats young stars. Meanwhile, West, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, has landed in trouble over the years for going on offensive rants.

The pop star wasn’t the only early aughts icon Griffin name-dropped. She also opened up about attending Paris Hilton‘s birthday party earlier this year.

“Can you believe it? God, love her for being my friend after I’ve been calling her a dirty whore for 30 years,” Griffin said. “I love it when these celebrities come around!”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
