The following is the scholarship programs offered for graduate applicants. Students may apply for the programs before or during the admission application period. The annual announcement will be posted on this website.

SNU President Fellowship Program (SPF)

Eligibility (must be BOTH)

a faculty member of a major university in a developing country WITHOUT a Ph.D. degree

a newly admitted student to SNU as Ph.D. student (priority given to faculty members from major universities in developing countries in Asia, Africa, South America etc.)

Number of Recipients

Approximately 8 recipients each semester

Details

Tuition fee: full tuition exemption for a maximum of 6 semesters

Living expenses: 1, 500,000 KRW ~ 2,000,000 KRW per month for 3~4 years

A round-trip airfare(economy class based on GTS system)

Korean language training (only evening class during regular semesters)

National Health Insurance fee reimbursement

Application Period

During admission period for international students every semester

Selection Procedure

Application for SPF scholarship made at the same time for online application for admission to SNU’s Office of Admissions(must check the ‘Application for Scholarship’ box) → Submission of application documents to SNU OIA (evidential documents regarding scholarship application that was done online) → SNU Admission Results → Interview → Decision noticed

Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS)

Eligibility (must be BOTH)

Non-Korean applicants currently enrolled or graduated from eligible countries*, and who applied and is accepted into SNU

Those who applied for the designated college/school* participating in the GSFS Program

☞ The list of eligible countries and participating colleges/schools differ every semester, so applicants must check the list of college/schools participating in the GSFS Program for this upcoming semester (which can be found in the guide sent out each semester by the SNU Office of International Affairs: https://oia.snu.ac.kr/page/bo_notice.php)

Number of Recipients

Approximately 20

Details

Tuition fee: full tuition exemption for a maximum of 4 semesters

Living expenses: minimum of 500,000 KRW per month (different according to recipients’ majors)

Application Period

During admission period for international students every semester

Selection Procedure

Application for GSFS scholarship made at the same time for online application for admission to SNU’s Office of Admissions(must check the ‘Application for Scholarship’ box) → Selection made by respective Colleges/Schools based on the admission documents → Decision noticed

Overseas Koreans Scholarship

Eligibility

Overseas Korean students who wish to earn graduate degrees at SNU

Subsidies

Full tuition exemption for a maximum of 4 semesters (when conditions are met)

Living expenses: 900,000 KRW per month 4 semesters (maximum)

Airfare for one economy round trip

Korean language training fee: fee exemption at the Language Education Institute for 6 months

Medical insurance subscription (private company)

Application Period

February or March (Once per year, Recruitment period is about one month)

Selection Procedure

Applicants submit applications (apply online and print) and other documents to Korean embassies in their countries → The embassies make the first selection → The Overseas Koreans Foundation make the second selection

Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP/GKS)

Eligibility

International students applying for SNU’s graduate programs

Number of Recipients

Approximately 40~60 every year

Subsidies

Full tuition fee: tuition exemption for 4 semesters for Master’s program and 6 semesters for Ph. D program

Monthly Allowance: 1,308,330 KRW per month

* The monthly allowance includes expenses for living and studying in Korea, such as living expenses, textbooks, insurance premiums, TOPIK scholarships, and thesis printing costs etc.

Airfare: one economy round trip

Korean language training fee: for one year

* Korean language training is mandatory and when the student does not achieve TOPIK grade 3 within a year, she/he is not eligible to enter the degree program

Others: medical insurance, research fund, thesis printing fees, settlement and returning expenses

University Recommendation Program: Applicants submit applications to SNU’s Office of Admission → The National Institute for International Education make the selection

Embassy Recommendation Program: Applications submit applications to Korean Embassies in their countries → The National Institute for International Education make the selection
