ICE Publishing partners with The Wikipedia Library

ICE Virtual Library open to the Wikipedia editing community.

We are excited to announce a new partnership with The Wikipedia Library, a project of the Wikimedia Foundation, to provide ICE Virtual Library access to Wikipedia’s volunteer editing community. By enabling free access to our content for Wikipedia editors, we hope to further the research community’s resources - creating and updating Wikipedia entries on civil engineering which are read by thousands of monthly readers.

ICE Publishing is a wholly-owned commercial subsidiary of UK charity, the Institution of Civil Engineers. Enabling online access to ICE Publishing resources supports ICE’s mission to help professionals and academics learn and share its knowledge. Such digital support has been made even more important by the COVID-19 pandemic, where physical access to libraries and resources has become severely restricted.

In establishing this partnership, ICE Publishing joins over 60 publishers and aggregators to create a resource of more than 100,000 unique periodicals (journals, magazines, and newspapers), in addition to books, archives and other collections.

“The wealth of information offered through this partnership helps give Wikipedia editors the tools they need to do effective research,” said Sam Walton, Product Manager at the Wikimedia Foundation. “This helps Wikipedia remain reliable and trustworthy for its millions of monthly readers.”

Sam Hall, Journals Development Editor, ICE Publishing, said “In partnering the ICE Virtual Library with Wikipedia Library, we hope that the most comprehensive civil engineering resource will reach even more researchers and readers, and aid the production and development of engineering knowledge even further.”

Access to ICE Publishing content is provided to any Wikipedia editor who meets account age, edit count, and recent activity criteria via IP certification. If you are a Wikipedia editor interested in using ICE Publishing resources you can find more information on The Wikipedia Library Card Platform.
