Ants in the bags of rice
We opened 2 out of the 6 bags of rice we purchased for a church event yesterday. Upon pouring the rice into a clean and covered rice cooker, we discovered ants crawling throughout the rice. Later, we discovered ants crawling in the unopened bags. We have to throw away $71 worth of rice. This product is not eligible for return. So, unfortunately, we will not be able to recoup the cost for this product.

First thing I noticed was how clean and white it cooked up. Incredibly fluffy and very flavorful.
I've never been excited about rice. Just thought rice was rice.

Saute shallots in butter until soft and golden, add rinsed rice and mixed thoroughly with the shallots until each grain becomes translucent, add chicken stock, salt to taste, along with a couple of bay leaves, simmer and cover over low heat for 20 minutes. Leaving covered, remove cooked rice from heat for 10 minutes, then, toss with a tablespoon or two of additional butter, a grating of fresh nutmeg, freshly ground black pepper and a handful of freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano (parmesan) cheese. Toss gently to combine. The dish was perfect, the rice was perfect, a cross between risotto and pilafi!
