MK Dons have surprisingly appointed Karl Robinson as the club's boss, making the 29-year-old the youngest manager in the Football League.

Robinson, who was Paul Ince's assistant at Stadium MK, has agreed a 12-month rolling contract.

His number two will be experienced former England coach John Gorman.

Dons chairman Pete Winkelman said: "Karl is a young man with enormous ambition who has the talent to build on the momentum our club is building."

Robinson replaces Ince who announced his departure from the club last month.

Winkelman added: "Karl's coaching credentials and reputation within the game are already well-established and his appointment provides us with some much-needed continuity in terms of team development, player identification and recruitment."

A Liverpudlian, Robinson played Non-League football and in the League of Wales before becoming a coach. He accompanied Ince when the former England international moved from MK to Blackburn, and returned to the club when Winkelman reappointed Ince.

Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio; "I'm thrilled and excited. I just want to get started, I wish it was the beginning of the season. The good thing is it has given me time to reflect, have a good look at things and take stock over the summer.

"I just really hope I can bring success. It's not got a lot of history this football club, but we are making it on a regular basis and I really want to be a part of that history."
