Wolves To Postpone Steve Bull Stand Redevelopment

Posted on: Fri 20 Jan 2012

Wolves has decided to postpone the start of the second phase of the redevelopment of Molineux Stadium, meaning the construction of the Steve Bull (East Stand) will not begin at the end of this season. However, the Club has reaffirmed its commitment towards the project and has commissioned important advanced enabling works, including the diversion of major services (including electricity and a new sub-station), to be undertaken immediately.  This will enable a speedier development process when the decision is made to proceed.

The Club has recently committed to a £6m Training Ground and Academy development in order to achieve the Category 1 Premier League Academy Status.  The Premier League recategorisation of Academies only came about after the initial decision to redevelop the ground and therefore was not part of the Club's original cash flow. Given this extra financial commitment and the long-stated aim to achieve the right balance between investment in infrastructure and the first team playing squad, the board has decided to postpone the commencement of the Steve Bull Stand.

Jez Moxey, Chief Executive, Wolves, said: "The stadium redevelopment was always to be constructed in phases with each to be taken on its merits at the time. The board felt that if we didn't proceed with the Academy redevelopment we would never be able to revisit it, whereas the stadium redevelopment was always planned to be a long term project.

"In view of the financial commitment to the Academy we have decided to postpone the Steve Bull Stand development for now, particularly as this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to redevelop the Club's Training Ground and Academy."
