Thanks to Will Girling of Automotive World for the recent feature. Although regulatory and economic factors have instigated the need for sustainable batteries, consumers preference for higher ESG performance will keep the momentum going. In the interview, Circulor’s CEO Douglas Johnson-Poensgen unpacks the need for automakers to prove responsible sourcing to maintain sales in the US and EU, requiring accurate and verifiable traceability data along with close supplier engagement. To bring this to life, the article highlights notable results of Circulor with customers SQM and Volvo Cars to make available digital proof of SQM’s IRMA Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) 75 lithium to downstream customers. https://lnkd.in/g2YfGReV #Sustainable #Battery #SupplyChains #Traceability #ResponsibleSourcing #ESG

The European Commission has released the draft Carbon Footprint methodology for EV batteries, with an opportunity to feedback until 28 May 2024. These Acts are a significant requirement of the EU Battery Regulation – a pioneering legislation that positions Europe at the forefront of building a sustainable, secure, and circular battery economy, and driving competitiveness. While the ultimate responsibility for several significant obligations, including the Carbon Footprint, sits with the Economic Operators, it’s important to acknowledge the role of all participants in a battery's lifecycle to comply. Beyond compliance, multiple benefits can be realised by organizations across the battery value chain. Read about navigating the EU Battery Regulation and our extensive battery value chain network in our recent blog. https://lnkd.in/eymDttaz #BatteryRegulation #Transparency #Sustainability #PROVEbyCirculor Douglas Johnson-Poensgen Yue Jin Tay Luise Müller-Hofstede Karolin Langfeldt Bill Zierolf Magda Rychlewska Shannon Carabetta Fearghal Kearney Jessica Green Delia Zanatta Rhys Mason Ben Kilbey Frank Maisano

Congratulations Congressman Paul Tonko and Congressman Garrett Graves on yesterday’s introduction of the Critical Material TRACE Act (H.R. 8187). The bipartisan legislation would improve supply chain transparency throughout the energy transition by establishing a program within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to support the development, implementation, and adoption of digital identification systems. “A well-developed digital battery identifier and set of reporting standards,” says Congressman Tonko, “would allow for the smooth transfer of relevant information between various stakeholders, including mining companies, manufacturers, recyclers, consumers, and regulators, while helping meet long-term goals for stable, secure, and ethical battery supply chains. Our Critical Material TRACE Act would deliver that robust battery identification system.” Circulor’s glad to be working in support of this bill with the Battery Materials & Technology Coalition (BMTC), SAFE, Umicore, OPTEL Group, Union of Concerned Scientists, Global Battery Alliance, and many others.
