It's been one month in since I've received, setup, and have been using my ASUS/Google OnHub and I've got to say... I am very happy and grateful that Google makes great, reliable and economical products. Let me just start off by saying that I don't have the need to do anything fancy such as port forwarding or any of that nonsense. My original router was actually a hybrid made by Motorola and was the SBG6580 model which some of you fellow cable users might be accustomed to. Well after having that modem/router combo I noticed that I was having major problems with the wifi in addition to the low strength and throttled speeds in my apartment. Never had an issue with hardwired devices plugged directly to the modem but found myself resetting my Motorola every couple days if not every day. Of course I couldn't put up with it anymore and hence I am now a very proud and happy owner of the OnHub.Packaging: Very simplistic, beautiful, and elegant would be the best way to describe it. Then again, have you ever bought a Google device and experienced otherwise? You'll find the OnHub router upon taking off the top part of the box and underneath are simple basic instructions as well as the power cable and flat wire ethernet cable.Setup: I've had my fair share of setting up routers, and let me tell you, it isn't a walk in the park for the most part. You connect it to a desktop and configure all the settings for the wifi name, password, etc. and sometimes it takes you several minutes just to get through the interface of said configurations. With the ASUS OnHub, you simply plug it in to your router, bust out your phone, Apple device, or Android device and use the corresponding OnHub app. Believe me when I say it's as easy as signing into your Google account and pressing a couple of buttons and letting the OnHub do all the setup itself. It might take a while (20 minutes give or take) depending on how up to date the firmware is but once it's all done, you just have to choose your network name and network passcode and you're all good to go!Performance: My network settings probably isn't optimal and the best as it's currently configured mainly because I plugged in the OnHub directly to my modem and didn't go into bridge mode. You may ask "why wouldn't you bridge?" and my answer is simply, I need all the LAN ports on my modem for my desktop and private cloud server in addition to the LAN port for the OnHub. With all that being said though, this has no effect on my wifi performance though. In addition to getting a very generous range from the OnHub, my download speeds have been significantly boosted. Screenshots from my iPad show the differences in download speeds with the SBG 6580 against the OnHub. With both long range and unhindered maximum wifi speeds, I do not regret spending the $200 for this device.Pricing: Is it really worth it to buy a router that essentially is constrained and limited in configuration for the typical network geek and buff? Probably not. If, you're in the market for a router which has great range, LAN ports, and endless network configuration, this shouldn't even be in your list of considerations. However, if all you're looking for is something that's hassle free to setup with decent range and optimal wifi speeds, this is the way to go. It really doesn't hurt too that the ASUS OnHub isn't an eyesore and looks like a retro decorative art piece, especially with that sexy light blue LED light from the bottom.Overall Impression: I'm glad that I finally have a very stable and consistent wifi network now where I can stream NETFLIX or anything else throughout my apartment and anywhere in my apartment without the constant worry of losing signal to my network or major buffering issues. In addition, you never have to worry about manually updating the firmware since Google will automatically send updates to your OnHub and acts very self sufficient. Overall, a solid $200 investment!

Having navigated through the dense market of routers, I chanced upon the ASUS SRT-AC1900 AC1900 OnHub Google WiFi Router, and to say it's been a breath of fresh air would be an understatement. From its sleek aesthetics to its superior performance, this router has become the focal point of my home's internet ecosystem.

    Unboxing and Setup:
The unboxing experience was akin to unwrapping a meticulously designed gadget. The simplistic yet elegant packaging beckoned me into a realm of superior connectivity. The setup was a breeze. With just a few taps on the Google On app on my smartphone, I had the router up and running. The process was intuitive, requiring no technical prowess, making it a boon for individuals who find themselves at odds with technology.

    Performance:
The router’s performance has been nothing short of stellar. Streaming videos and online gaming, which were once marred by incessant buffering and lag, are now smooth operations. The OnHub effortlessly caters to multiple devices, ensuring optimal bandwidth distribution. The real-time bandwidth usage per device is a feature that stands out, allowing for better management of my network. Even in a congested apartment block, the congestion-sensing antenna works tirelessly to ensure a robust connection.

    Advanced Features:
The ASUS OnHub, though simple to use, doesn’t shy away from offering advanced features. The guest network setup, prioritizing devices with a single tap, and the seamless transition from my old network were features that resonated with me. However, it lacks some advanced configurations like VPN service, port-range triggering, and custom firmware support which might deter the tech-savvy.

    Pros
+ User-friendly Setup: The Google On app simplifies the setup process, making it a hassle-free experience.
+ Stellar Performance: The router optimizes the bandwidth ensuring crystal clear streaming and online gaming without a hitch.
+ Guest Network Features: Setting up guest networks and sharing specific devices with guests is a thoughtful feature.
+ Real-time Bandwidth Monitoring: A commendable feature for bandwidth management.
+ Automatic Updates: The router stays updated with the latest security features, a significant plus for a peace of mind.

    Cons:
    - Lack of Advanced Configurations: Tech-savvy individuals might find the lack of certain advanced configurations limiting.
    - Single LAN Port: With just one LAN port, a separate gigabit switch purchase is almost inevitable for wired connections.
    - DNS Configuration Issue: Encountered intermittent stalls in requests, though it was resolved by using the ISP's DNS.
    - Dependence on Smartphone App: The reliance on a smartphone app for setup and management may not appeal to everyone, and the need for a Google account might deter some.

    Long-term Reliability:
As of my one-month tenure with the ASUS OnHub, the router has held its ground, offering consistent performance. However, there have been mentions of devices preferring 2.4 GHz band over the 5 GHz, and some issues with iOS devices connectivity over time. These are areas I’ll keep an eye on as I continue to use the OnHub.

    Conclusion:
The ASUS SRT-AC1900 AC1900 OnHub Google WiFi Router is a remarkable piece of technology that bridges the gap between novice users and a strong, reliable internet connection. Its simplicity, coupled with its robust performance, makes it a worthy investment for a hassle-free internet experience. While it may not cater to the whims of a tech aficionado seeking advanced configurations, it more than serves its purpose for the average user seeking a reliable, strong, and easy-to-manage internet connection.

Of course I couldn't put up with it anymore and hence I am now a very proud and happy owner of the OnHub.

Packaging: Very simplistic, beautiful, and elegant would be the best way to describe it. Then again, have you ever bought a Google device and experienced otherwise? You'll find the OnHub router upon taking off the top part of the box and underneath are simple basic instructions as well as the power cable and flat wire ethernet cable.

Setup: I've had my fair share of setting up routers, and let me tell you, it isn't a walk in the park for the most part. It might take a while (20 minutes give or take) depending on how up to date the firmware is but once it's all done, you just have to choose your network name and network passcode and you're all good to go!

Performance: My network settings probably isn't optimal and the best as it's currently configured mainly because I plugged in the OnHub directly to my modem and didn't go into bridge mode. With both long range and unhindered maximum wifi speeds, I do not regret spending the $200 for this device.

Pricing: Is it really worth it to buy a router that essentially is constrained and limited in configuration for the typical network geek and buff? Probably not. If, you're in the market for a router which has great range, LAN ports, and endless network configuration, this shouldn't even be in your list of considerations. However, if all you're looking for is something that's hassle free to setup with decent range and optimal wifi speeds, this is the way to go. It really doesn't hurt too that the ASUS OnHub isn't an eyesore and looks like a retro decorative art piece, especially with that sexy light blue LED light from the bottom.

Overall Impression: I'm glad that I finally have a very stable and consistent wifi network now where I can stream NETFLIX or anything else throughout my apartment and anywhere in my apartment without the constant worry of losing signal to my network or major buffering issues. In addition, you never have to worry about manually updating the firmware since Google will automatically send updates to your OnHub and acts very self sufficient. Overall, a solid $200 investment!

5.0 out of 5 stars Set-up pamphlet error: "Google On app" is no longer in the Play Store

OnHub router. 3 comments: 1) The set up pamphlet incorrectly states the router should be set up using the Google Play store’s "Google On app". That app no longer exists. In fact, we had to use the "Google WiFi app" from the play store. 2) The router lacks a WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) button, which means that connecting your printer for wireless use is a bit more arduous, 3) The router has only 1 ethernet LAN port

Trouble shooting: When transferring the my modem's ethernet cable from the old to the new OnHub router, I needed to reboot my modem. Prior to rebooting the modem, the OnHub router set-up was unsuccessful.

Amazing piece of hardware. I installed it in bridge mode, losing most of its user features, but never regretted buying it. All devices are connected with blazing speeds.

The Google wifi router arrived as expected and was very easy to set up. Some minor glitches with the software install at first, but was not a problem in the end. The user interface is very easy to understand and navigate. The unit was purchased because I believed there to be a "dead" or weak wifi area in my house. It will take a few more months of use before I can say it has met my needs. Thanks for reading.

I have tried many routers over the years, this is bar far the best router out there! I live in a 3 story town house, signal is strong from my basement 1st and second floor. Set up is easy via Google home app on your phone. My only complaint is that there is no web gui to use when configuring, you have to use your phone.
