Wow! I was not expecting this to perform as well as it does. It takes some work on your side to get the best signal, whether stand alone or with G.hn extendors. I had to move the device around the house a bit to get the best signal. I love the ability to do so much configuring on the routing side, but it may seem overwhelming to a novice. The defaults are fine other than the default password ;) I am on a 200mbps line and when connected to wifi I get between 150 and 190mbps. On hardware I get between 190 and 203mbps. I have 5 iPhones 2 tablets 4 cable cut TVs and a PS4 connected and running without issue. Some devices will only connect to 2.4 ghz which reduces the speed to 80ish Mbps.

I bought this as a combo package with the SB6190 (with the 1.4 Gps download speed) because both my modem and my router were not providing acceptable performance for my needs. I've been delaying upgrading my equipment because I didn't want to go through the pain of understanding the final details of optimizing equipment to my service. However, the performance problems were becoming untenable, and I needed to dive in to fix the frustration. I will share a few of my learnings for those who are not network tech savvy. Tech savvy can move along!

Installed the SB6190, and that was effortless. Installed this router. That was mostly effortless, though I had some problems with the webpage admin log in. It worked fine. Prompted for a firmware update which I installed. After upgrading the firm ware on the initial log in, I could not get the page to work again. I had to reset my modem. The interface has many options, most of which are above my pay-grade. It is robust, and there for those who need it.

Outside of the above 'blip', I had no problem reconnecting my devices. Here are a few of my learnings:

First, I learned that my I was on the slug speed of my high speed internet. There are 3 service tiers at Cox, and I was on the lowest. (How did I not know that?). Of course, when I got internet in the covered wagon days, there was only two speeds: off and on!

Second, before committing to buying lower performing equipment, ensure that your usage needs are well defined. My older modem was not capable of handling higher internet juice. So you will not get what you pay for if your home equipment cannot handle higher grades of service. Similarly, if you use and only need lower tiered service, you do not need to get equipment that handles high juice.

Third, for broadcasting a router signal, size.configuration of your home's footprint matters. Accordingly, your mileage will vary based on your particular circumstance.

Well, I did a needs assessment that was quite easy: I have internet to support my work first and foremost. I need speed, reliability and reach. My work is based on being able to connect to my client's accounting systems. I also use the computer to research stocks etc. So fast and failsafe is important to me. I also get some entertainment from my internet. So reaching into my bedroom with a strong signal is a prerequisite.

    drum roll.....

The modem/router combo of products gave me confidence that I would exceed my service needs, and that I would not outgrow my service needs. If my signal were weak in far area of my home, I could buy an additional 'hotspot'. Where my signal in my bedroom was weak before, it is very strong now. I don't need a hotspot....but if I do...I can get one if I am banished to some corner of my home that I've not tried to use internet.

To be sure, this combo package was an investment. But given my needs assessment, it made sense for me in my situation. Surely, it is the strangest looking router out there---like the cousin to Mr. Peanut. But I'm very happy with my purchase. I'm not savvy enough to give it but 1 star meaning that I hate it or 5 stars meaning I love it. Tech savvy people can give you the why's and wherefore's of giving it a 3, 4, or 5.

2 worked great out of the box, however a third or forth and the auto pairing doesn't happen. With so little technical info available online or with the product, you will have to call tech support to get the local IP and login to get it set up correctly. Which is what I did, I was on for about an hour getting all three devices set, and then pairing them to each other. It is a process, but not difficult. Once done, they work great. Speed is impressive, and reliable. better than a cat 5 cable, but not quiet what a cat 6 cable could produce for bandwidth. But well worth not crawling in the crawl space to pull cable. Smokes the xfinity 5g wireless by nearly double. and much more reliable and consistent.
if you need a fast connection, and cant pull the cable, this is the way to go.

The entire product line is not ready for primetime. I've been through multiple 3200 routers, and multiple 1200 extenders, and after fighting with it for more than half a year, I'm giving up. Our internet fails several times a month, with no changes. Rebooting the main router usually helps, and the extenders can then reconnect. The firmware is so buggy (latest is 1.05, hasn't been updated in months), that logging into the admin panel causes the router to reboot. Which makes it terribly hard to troubleshoot the inevitable problems. Even when it is working, its network performance is weirdly variable - DNS requests fail 3 times prior to working, speed even between nodes is variable, separate entirely from the internet speed. Arris support is fair to poor, with little knowledge of these particular units; they haven't evidently been selling that well, so they aren't familiar with the problems (or any potential fixes).

This is a great concept (high-speed powerline networking), but poorly executed. I've ordered another whole house mesh wireless system, and am throwing these into a drawer, until/unless I'm able to get a refund of some sort.

Doesn't seem to work for me as advertised. It may be that I have wrong SurfBoard modem/router unit and there has a problem. Anyway, unless you want to reboot the router and these every day. It might not work for you.

This warehouse deal arrived with a funny rattling part (loose piece) inside, but the unit did operate. I didn't like the way the Wireless Access Point was presented to the WiFi receiver, where I could not select the separate 2 GHz band aside from the 5 GHz band. Both seemed to be shown as equivalent WiFi networks (a single option in my Available Wireless Network selections). I did not experience a noticeably better signal, but this may work better with extender units which it is designed to support.
