This newer model has been fantastic. Brighter, sharper picture with fabulous contrast.
PRO TIP: I discovered the hard way that none of my old HDMI cables or switches would work (e.g., I have an HDMI/audio splitter so I can send the video signal to the projector and the audio to my Sonos speaker system).
None of the old HD cabling or devices will work with a 4k projector, particularly if (a) you want to access all of the projector’s features (e.g., image presets, detailed image controls) or (b) you want to stream video in 4k. This layer issue is due to copyright protections on 4k video streams. Make sure your cables and devices are HDCP 2.2/2.3 compliant.

Fast forward to a few minutes ago when I finally broke down and called as it is far worse now. Support tried to pass it off, didn't know I could get the serial number from the screen which showed they didn't know the product in the tech support department, and he just said he would put in a ticket to have a technician look at it. How? That's an RMA, how would you schedule a technician to come out. Hate to sound like a Karen (sorry to Karen's but that happened to your name) and I asked for a supervisor because I figured the current person wasn't understanding the issue. It's known, it's reported here on Amazon and the web. Why deny it. Anyways, he refused and I let him know I would report it as I would have to call again. Who doesn't get upset at that. Called again, next person must have been in the same room, sorry you guys don't get to WFH. He said that it was likely the HDMI cord. Figured why would he also be a jerk. Well I looked the cord is the one he said I should have. Unfortunately they will not support their product and you will need to use consumer protection organizations to get them to honor their warranty for their products.
The 4K UHD resolution delivers incredibly crisp and vibrant images with exceptional clarity. It's like having a cinema in your living room!
One of the standout features for me is the enhanced gaming mode. It takes gaming to the next level with a lightning-fast 16.7ms response time in 4K at 60Hz and an impressive 4ms in 1080p at 240Hz. Gamers, you're in for a treat!
The projector is packed with the latest technology, including HDR and HLG compatibility, three HDMI 2.0 inputs, and Full 3D support. Plus, the integrated speaker is a nice bonus.
What really sets the UHZ45 apart is its laser technology. As per the specs, I read it offers 30,000-hour maintenance-free laser light source, I hope I can enjoy hours of entertainment worry-free. (Will update if required) The color accuracy is exceptional, and the dynamic contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1 truly enhances the visual experience.
I can confidently say that the Optoma UHZ45 has exceeded my expectations, and I'm thoroughly enjoying recreating the big-screen experience at home. It's a fantastic investment for any home theater enthusiast or gamer. Highly recommended!"

For the price, this is unbeatable unit. It is a lazer projector with a 4K image for a ridiculously low price.
What is wrong with you people writing bad reviews about this unit? This projector has excellent color, excellent contrast ratio, good blacks, excellent resolution, and an lazor light source (little maintenance required). I've had it for over 3 months, now. It is a very good projector. I've had many projectors in my life. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Optoma makes good projectors. They also respect their warranty period policy, and are trustworthy. I like this projector. You can spend 8 000 $ getting a higher end projector, which is probably too big for your entertainment room, and marginally better. With this unit, you get an excellent 4K lazer projector dirt cheap.
I would say that after searching for a while I landed with a projector that satisfys my next generation itch from my Benq W1070. The picture is just phenomenal, and no bulbs to worry about.
The lack of HDMI 2.1 is a bit disappointing but doesn't really impact me too much. It does have eArc that works well with my Onkyo receiver. The CEC functions don't appear to work too well, but that's just the way that technology goes.
I have a 140" screen and this has no problem lighting the whole thing up with lights on somewhat, definitely love the quick on/off too.
Overall - highly recommended!
After moving the projector too close to the screen halo effect gone but colors are terrible. Maybe a manufacturing defect but forums says many people have this issue.

After moving the projector too close to the screen halo effect gone but colors are terrible. Maybe a manufacturing defect but forums says many people have this issue.

First and foremost there are noticeable focus uniformity issues (when the top centre is pin sharp the bottom left is soft, and when the bottom left is sharp the top centre is soft). And no, I don't have the image on an angle or any geometric correction enabled.
It is more evident when displaying text, so I used that in a video to demonstrate the issue wo Optoma, and they said that it's not a data projector and just meant for movies and games. I countered with the fact that there is text in games (e.g. menu/setting screens), and there is also text in the interfaces of streaming services that play movies, but they refused to do anything and suggested that I just find a mid point where both parts are relatively in focus. That's unacceptable to me with a projector that cost this much.
Secondly, the PureMotion (frame interpolation) feature doesn't work properly. Not everyone likes this feature, but I do. It won't work when the input device (streaming box, console etc.) is set to 4k 60hz output. None of my other displays (projector or multiple TVs) have this issue. They all enable the feature with 60Hz input, as long as the content being played is 24fps or 30fps. The only way I can get it to work with the UHZ50 is to force my streaming device (NVidia Shield) to output at 4k 24Hz. However, when doing that the audio is off by about 250ms, which is enough to be pretty noticeable.
PureMotion also doesn't work with 3D content (frame packed from a 3D disc, or side by side converted), even though it says it's enabled. Additionally, whenever I watch 3D content that's converted from a 2D side by side video, the audio is also waaay off. It's like when the projector processes the video in any meaningful way, the audio is off.
Optoma suggested changing the HDMI cable or bypassing my receiver, but neither option worked. I doubt it's a hardware issue, but they want me to send it in for repair and who knows when I'd get it back if I did.
Thirdly, it takes much longer than I thought to boot up. I was lead to believe in a review of the projector that since it has a laser light source, it will be really quick to start up and display an image. That is not the case. It takes just as long to boot up and display a usable image as my 10+ year old bulb projector (around 30 seconds).
On the plus side, it has a bright image, and decent HDR with the lights off (I haven't calibrated anything). I don't have any other 4k/HDR projectors to compare it to, but it looks good to me. The reviews from pros seem to indicate the same.
It's too bad the picture quality is overshadowed by all the other major flaws.
