I'll start by saying the iPad is the last thing I wanted. I have a Pixel phone and a Windows laptop and never owned a single Apple product, I went in to buying this hating iOS (it does suck a lot vs Android as far as navigating the OS and file management- although 11 is a slight improvement). Once I just put up with the idea I can use different devices for different things and not having to be able to do everything with every device it grew on me. It's not a laptop replacement at all but does the job for emails and VERY LIGHT doc/spreadsheet editing, maybe if I got pencil I'd be happier but my finger is not very precise for a cursor.
I should clarify my rating as it has more to do with my needs than the device itself, its a 5 start machine for some people but I do not need many of the biggest selling points:
Great camera (I have a Pixel phone which has a better camera and unlimited free cloud storage for pics and videos)
120hz screen refresh rate (ok impressive but not going to be playing games at the frame rate so other than for the lagless pencil this is kinda of useless)
Pencil (I can't draw to save my life and any cheap pen input or my finger will work for the little bit of markings I need to do)
Fast processor and decent graphics for an iPad (I'm not going to do video editing or much gaming on this thing)
The ipad itself is pretty light, not amazingly light but it is not hard to hold for long periods and feels light in a bag (very light compared to my 5lb laptop 2-1 which just stinks as a tablet). I originally wanted something to use for sheet music on a music stand and also was about due for a laptop upgrade so I stupidly tried to do everything in one device when I saw how cheap 2-in-1s have gotten and I got suckered into buying something heavier than I wanted on the laptop side which ruined my plans for it as a sheet music reader. That being said you can get something for the same price with way more processing power, ram, and storage in a windows 2-in-1 if you're willing to put up with 3-5lbs instead of 1-2lbs carrying weight.
iOS vs Windows on tablet: iOS wins easily, windows just doesn't feel right on a tablet and that's a problem for a device you want to use as a tablet more than on occasion. iOS vs Android: Here's where it gets tricky; after playing around in the App store you could argue that there is a slightly better app selection on iOS and it seems like google is moving towards ChromeOS for tablets (a smart move but means you're buying a dead soon to be unsupported device if you get an android tablet), had they been out and competitive I would have gone that route. I almost bought a Zenpad 3 S10 but reports of it being slow and questionable support for updates down the road got me to spend 2x the money on the iPad. I really wanted an android tablet but lack of updates and premium device options mean it's stupid to spend a lot on a device that will be dead in 2-3 years. The amazon fire 10 tablet is tempting because its cheap enough to say who cares if it doesn't work in two years but after being on pure android with the Pixel I think I'd die using fireOS.
Other thoughts- Get the 256gb ver or atleast the cell version of the 64gb if you have a good unlimited plan. Loaded with pre-downloaded netflix amazon videos and lots of spotify albums it's using 150GB and since the camera is good I will probably use it; that takes up space fast.
