Weird that the screen is better, but the back breaks easier, but it is the most expensive piece to replace. Go figure.

You can't really conclude that from a single drop on concrete... That's the opposite of a scientific experiement, it is an anecdote and totally useless like most anecdotes. you could get breakage this one time and 50 times more it does not break, or breakage 50 times in a row, or the screen breaking all 49 other times. Who knows really what would happen.

I got mine yesterday (perks of living down under), and I REALLY like it. It is a HUGE upgrade compared to my “old” iPhone 6+. Im loving the force touch and the impressive difference in general sanppyness. The camera is A LOT better. Not that i use it much, but the upgrade is welcome.
In general, I’m loving my new phone, the first new one I’ve had in three years.

That's quite a nice and subtle shade of rose gold or whatever, just not a fan of those white front bezels.
Man, I am so right there with you. I love the color, and that creamy glass back. But white bezels kill it for me. I received my black 8 Plus yesterday, great phone. But I would've loved that gold.

I still think 64gb is absolutely insulting.
I'm bothered more by the lack of a 128 option, which for me is the sweet spot. But I store almost everything in the cloud now, and I could live with 64. But I did exactly what Apple expects most of us to do and went with the 256, just to future proof myself. In any case, I'm on the annual upgrade plan and will trade it in next year for the successor to the X, or, if rumors persist about availability, I'll put my name on the waiting list for the original X!

Not sure what statistics you’re looking at dude. The amount of users on iPhone 6 or later is staggering. This is expected to be a super cycle.
What statistics, are you looking at?

Last year there was intense interest for the 7 due to all of the free carrier upgrades available. This year the offers are minimal and the costs are higher. This will generate less interest among consumers...especially to those not interested in the X and already have a phone that looks like the 8....the iPhone 6. Totally logical, dude.

The battery on the 8 is technically smaller capacity according to iFixit. That's crazy.

"It's rated at 6.96 watt-hours (roughly 1822mAh), compared to the 7.45Wh (1960mAh) battery you'd find in an iPhone 7."

I think most will appreciate the iPhone 8 who are upgrading to an older model iPhone such as yourself from the iPhone 6. I couldn't justify enough reason to upgrade for my iPhone 7 to the iPhone 8, which is potentially why am up going to the iPhone X. But I think the iPhone 8 will do really well in the long run, and sell the most because it's the most affordable and available.

That seems to be a common opinion among other iphone 7 users I know as well, I'm predicting the next time I see them they will want to look but not be impressed.

I reckon the most common question I'll be asked is 'why didn't you get the X?', although the worst argument so far was someone saying I should have gone on holiday instead (even though I need a smartphone for different reasons, don't upgrade every year and I'm giving them my old phone as they hate their Xperia M4).

So it’s been a few hours using the iPhone 8 plus and Apple Watch 3 and TV 4K.

Pros?
- true tone is really nice, and the screen seems brighter to me at night. I have the screen on the lowest brightness and still seems bright to me reading before bed, anyone else notice this?
- the processing speed, ios 11 runs real fast, I noticed my 7 plus running a bit slower since upgrading to iOS 11.

Cons?
- I haven’t really used it long enough to find any. I haven’t even taken a photo yet since I activated the phone last night.

Apple Watch Series 3 - extremely fast! I’ve been wearing a Watch since series 1 and 2 and this update is blazing fast! I haven’t activated LTE, not sure I really need it but I like the speed of this series.

iPhone X thoughts. I really don’t like the notch in the screen. I’ll try one out first to see if I like it and since I like the latest and greatest gadgets I’ll probably end up switching. We shall see.

Other notes? My local city has 3 Apple stores. The one closest to me to sold out of iPhones 8 last night when I stopped by to see how they were doing.

Do you really need an 8? No, it’s the same as previous years 6/7, faster cou, improved camera nothing else to really pop this mini upgrade but what else can be done with this device every year? New processors, more ram and a better camera?

If your a fanatic and need the latest stuff I say get it, and then decide if you want the X when it comes out.

Me I like this update and I always upgrade every year. I’m not yet 100% sold on the X. You can buy an 8 plus, watch 3 and Apple TV 4K for around $1600 or you can buy a 256 gig X with AppleCare for around $1400. I rather have 3 Davies than just one fancy one. Let’s see how the next month goes!

Because of the glass body, the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus are heavier than past iPhones, but at the same time, easier to hold, both due to small thickness increases and the grip of the glass itself.
Gotta call this out. I really like my new black 8 for lots of reasons, and the glass looks fantastically sleek. Gorgeous piece of kit, but no one should be out there thinking it’s “grippy.” It’s thin, smooth as, well, glass, and slippery as hell. Needs a bumper/case or you will drop it. Pity ‘cause it’s so pretty.

Got an 8 plus this morning. Will get an X too as I have 2 mobiles. Will see how it goes with the X, if it displays text on websites the same size as the non plus versions I think that it will have to excel elsewhere for me to hold on to it as I find the non plus models too small.

I recently watched the conference thinking can they possibly be rehashing the IPhone 6 again and possibly getting excited about this old naff design at all? I was just waiting for the IPhone X.

The 8 is a total waste of space and shouldn’t even exist.
Except that iPhone 8:
+ is $300 cheaper (with the exact same internals as the more expensive model)
+ has Touch ID
+ can be used one-handed
+ doesn't have a big notch cut out of top of apps, videos and photos

I was on the fence but having been in to the store for a play, I'm punting for the 7 128GB... £200 is a lot for marginal spec uplifts, wireless charging too slow to be of any use in quashing battery anxiety, the "makes white look orange" True Tone feature, and an extra 128GB of storage I really don't need.

I'd love the dual camera module, but the plus is too damn big for me.

My iPhone 6 is still working fine.
My next phone will be an unlocked phone so I can't order a X on launch day. Plus, I am sure there will be something that needs fine tuning on the iPhone X. Thus, I am torn about waiting. In all likelihood it could be spring before I can get a X if the production issues continue. I guess my 6 will have to do for now.
Honestly there are only two reasons I want the X: the larger display in a more manageable size compared to the 8 Plus and the OLED screen. I sure hope OLED is worth the wait.
It seems to me that Apple has boxed themselves in: Demand for the models is tepid and they can't make enough X's to drive sales volume.

I'm very similar to you. I've currently have no phone and I'm waiting for the x, if it's sold out I'll buy an eight plus until the x becomes available.

By the time the X actually comes out and is available it might be less than 6 months till XI is released.

Awesome phone and am loving it. Really highlights that phones are mature. They just don’t need to be upgraded as often - like iPads the market might stabilize.

It has good internals and good camera but the screen to body ratio on this thing is just shameful for 2017

Outdated by the iPhone X, crappy reception towards the iPhone 8/8+, and didn't feel good enough to warrant an upgrade from the 7+.

Nice. This will be old in a few weeks

It was old 20 minutes after it was announced. Apple should've released the iPhone 8 back in like April/May or something even if it had to put the A10X in instead of the A11. That way the iPhone X would've had its own release window. Samsung has success doing that with the Note and S every year.

Today, I went to the Apple Store to check out the iPhone 8 and Apple Watch 3. I have no intention of purchasing either but still enjoy playing around with the new products.

Compared to my Series 0 Apple Watch, the Series 3 was very nice. It felt very snappy and I like the updates to watchOS. I also like the silver colour on the new aluminium models which seems warmer and less cheap looking. Paired with the fog sport band, it's a killer combo. Admittedly, I was tempted.

Unfortunately, I wasn't particularly impressed with the fit and finish of the iPhone 8. The glass edges on both the front and back didn't feel particularly smooth against the aluminium edge. I wouldn't go as far as saying they were sharp, but they were certainly prominent. As expected, the front and back glass just looked horrible covered in fingerprints. Not as bad as the jet black iPhone 7 but bad enough.
