With 5G set to take off in 2020, Linksys is unveiling new 5G hardware options at CES, which will be releasing to the public starting in the spring of 2020 and continuing throughout the year.

Linksys is launching a 5G Mobile Hotspot, a 5G Modem, a Linksys Velop 5G Mesh Gateway, and a 5G Outdoor Router, all of which will work with various 5G networks both at home and on the go.

Along with its 5G hardware, Linksys is also embracing WiFi 6, the newest WiFi specification that's faster than 802.11.ac or WiFi 5.

The Dual-Band Mesh WiFi 6 Router offers 4x faster speeds, better WiFi range, and increased capacity. It uses the Linksys Intelligent Mesh technology to offer seamless WiFi coverage with Velop nodes or Velop mesh routers.

The router offers 8-stream WiFi 6 technology with speeds up to 6000Mb/s, and it will be available in the spring of 2020 for $400.

Linksys also has a more affordable Velop WiFi 6 system coming this year, which offers speeds of up to 4200Mb/s and coverage of up to 3,000 square feet per node.

The Velop WiFi 6 system will be available in the summer of 2020 and it will cost $300 for a one-pack and $500 for a two-pack.

Linksys has one other product that it's debuting at CES, the Linksys Wellness Pods, designed in collaboration with Origin Wireless. The Linksys Wellness Pods are designed to offer "detailed insight into consumer well-being" by monitoring daily routines, and tracking breathing patterns, sleep quality, and offering fall detection without the use of wearables or cameras.

Little detail is available on the Wellness Pods at this time, but Linksys will be showing them off at CES. Pricing and launch date are not available at this time.

No body commented on this article?

I guess it reflects the care they have for this brand. Plus this has nothing to do with Apple or Macs.

Just as I caved and bought Nest Wifi. ?

My modem broke just after, but I discovered I don’t need one as my NBN is FTTP. Woo!

It was just posted, chill out dude.

“Nothing to do with Apple...” I must be imagining the Velop they sell, then.

One important thing to note here is Apple stopped making routers or caring about them awhile ago.

another thing to consider is manny carriers, at least in Canada, force and bundle their cable/dsl/fibre modems with Wi-Fi routers. It’s VERY annoying to have modem issues where you cannot control your HomeKit setup (like streaming to ATv4/4K via VLC and a USB stick/drive on the modem/router combo.

sure I could buy a router but I have no guarantee my provider will screw me over once it’s connected.

I have Comcast and we bought our own routers (AirPort Extremes and Express) and modem (Arris with telephony) and we’re running without any issues...for now ?

This—-article looks to be written in 2019 as it mentions 2020 as if we are not already in 2020

I have a Velop network that replaced my airports and it has been rock solid. If I can get 5g service that is unlimited at a reasonable price and offers similar speeds as my wired service I'd add in the Linksys mesh gateway and ditch my current ISP.

As I have TMob it would be nice if they come up with a package deal.

I just wanted to echo the same here. Comcast customer for over 10 years and have my own AirPort Extreme network at home.
Been working wonderful for me.

I'm a rolling stone.
I ask myself a question, does Linksys really stands for quality...nope, had nothing but trouble with this brand, my company has Linksys, wireless network sucks.
In my home I have Ubiquiti gear, few problems, stable and it cost not much more than Linksys consumer grade stuff.

Canadian ISPs does not allow you to use 3rd party routers?

Unfortunately in East York where I live Comcast is not an option for me (Rogers, Bell DSL ~ fibre yet to arrive, TekSavvy). Switching to the latter means no internet if I'm on Rogers for 30days and yet still must use combo Modem+Wireless router in-1.

I'll keep an eye out for Comcast, thanks.

I'm so gonna get 5G once it really becomes viable for home. HATE my current ISP (Cox) and have no other choices for fast speeds. Between Linksys and Netgear, hopefully there will be something that works.

The idea of an 'outdoor router' is intriguing. Why not have indoor with outdoor antenna?

Wifi 6, 8 streams Linksys falling behind everyone else. They used to be first in bringing out the best. That router looks like it belongs in the 80's. Hopefully they bring a 2gb ram, 2.4 quad, 12 stream, wifi 6 with 10 1gb lan ports,2.5gb wan port, 5G/2.5G/1G Multi-Gig Ethernet LAN port or else they are falling behind.

One possibility is antenna design is easier as you do not have to factor in another cable of indeterminant length. Another is wiring; an outdoor router would not require drilling holes in walls so renters could install one without violating the lease. Put a repeater indoors if needed to get coverage.
