Another example that Apple doesn't care to make or name products based on any popular/unpopular sentiment. Just does what it 'thinks' could sell well or make it a profit.

Really disappointed if it's not called iPhone SE/20

I'd also accept iPhone SEXI since it's of the iPhone 11 generation.
You would base your purchase decision on what it's name is rather than what it is? ;)

I know some people will be upset that this new "SE" won't be as small as the original SE...

But look at the sizes everyone else is selling at this price-point... Apple still makes one of the smallest phones around:

Honestly, if the launch of this phone is imminent, I can’t see any point. It was supposed to appeal to a price-conscious group of customers who don’t need the latest bells and whistles on their smartphone. I can’t see many such people buying a new gadget in the middle of the unheard of crisis we’re in now.

The world's largest smartphone market is entering a full recovery. Xiaomi has about 2,000 stores in China that have reopened. The SE2 launch is as good a time as any.

It doesn’t look particularly appealing in that company either. I have a 6S which still behaves impeccably, still is more than fast enough and I had been waiting for this, but in truth I’m not so sure I’ll bother now. It will be the best part of £400 in the UK....not good value against its peers. I think Apple have missed a real opportunity

For real though, They did the same thing when the SE came out in 2016. Dropped the price vs the 5s, offering flagship internals for less (at least in some markets they dropped the price, not sure if it was the same price as the 5s in States)

Arh, Yes I keep forgetting about that. It was the real outliner in all things iPhone. It was also $399 at the time as well.

This is going to be extremely popular in Japan where they much prefer the 4.7" Size and Touch ID. FaceID sucks when you have mask on all the time.

And I remember I once made a bet iPhone 9 / SE wont have dual sim or it will be esim + SIM card. We will know soon :)

I would assume if the pricing is accurate that the 8 would be getting the boot. It would also surprise me if they use the same chip as the 11 and price it that low.
I’d expect the 8 to drop $50 below the SE or to be removed immediately.

Not even trying to bring a true SE2. It’s more like “shut the hell up and here’s an 8. Good enough for you people. “

The SE is finally dead.:(

I hope Tim is finally called out for his shameless parts-bin cashgrab mentality.

I cant believe that costs $40. That has to be the most overpriced thing they sell.

Not more overpriced than the XDR screen stand, imho

Between this leak on Apple's website... and the AirTags leak on an Apple support video... they're not even trying to keep secrets anymore!

:p
I think it is quite difficult when more than half of your people are working from home.

Certainly the most archaic looking.

I'm saying it just doesn't matter what the name is. People know what they're buying and it works. A nerfed pro becoming the baseline model is actually what every other product out there is.

Not all of them know. Especially when it's pitched as a brand new product.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who just need to buy a phone right now.

Well it does matter here. If someone buys a screen protector for their SE and it’s .7” too big because both phones have the same name, then that’s a problem.

It is the only one £400 phone running iOS, so it is good value indeed.

Masks are going to be quite popular also outside Japan, in the next few years...

Besides this “SE”, why don’t they list it as compatible with 6/6S/7/8? Why just 7/8?
Is there someone still selling iPhone 6/6S ?

Well... I don't care what it looks like.... I just know that my thumb belongs on that TouchID sensor!

:p

I miss TouchID too but not to the point I'd pay and use something taken out of 2014 when every other major OEM has taken strides in modernising their low cost designs. Someone has to be really hooked to iOS and TouchID to see the 2020 "SE" as a compelling alternative.

Another iteration of the old iPhone 6. Almost 6 years with the same look.
They've certainly gotten their moneys worth out of that design!

Some people like the home button, my father been one of them.
The design looks really old, but this is meant to be a cheaper phone for people upgrading from the 6 and 6s. I guess it will be the last phone with the home button, but I'm glad they made another one with updated internals so it will be able to receive iOS updates for years.

Well, last March my (65 year old) dad bought a Galaxy A50 and he kept bragging about how his phone looked newer/better than mine (iPhone 8). He does like the iPad I got him a couple years ago but he doesn't honestly care about iOS vs Android.

As far as anecdotal experience goes, I really don't know whom this 5th regurgitation of the iPhone 6 is good for.
