Apple's artificially limiting supplies of their M1 Macs to create buzz in the press and thus consumer excitement and demand?

No one is artificially limiting supplies of any of these devices this year - we're in a global pandemic with extremely strained supply lines for the entire tech industry.

You can't buy any of the items Apple have released this year easily, the iMac, Watch, iPad Air, iPhone 12, M1 devices - and they're definitely not doing it on purpose either.

Uh it doesn't work that way. A company sells products to an authorized retailer doesn't mean that retailer can sell it for whatever price they want. Many corporations have a strict policy that their 3rd party retailers must sell at full retail or stay within a limit. It's not Walmart's choice to sell Apple's products for whatever price they want. Apple will pull their products out of Walmart. Apple can easily afford to do that too because Apple doesn't truly need Walmart.

Not sure how that contradicts my comment...if Apple sells AirPods Pro to Walmart for $200 and Walmart sells them for $169, Apple still gets their $200.

Unless you’re claiming that Apple told Walmart to sell AirPods for $169? Which seems extremely unlikely, especially since AirPods are selling like hot cakes at full price.

Very well said.. Just like the rest of us here in Europe..
Though I just saw the HomePod in the UK and DE stores with the Black Friday rebate... however they won't ship to NL... and London / Berlin are both closer to Amsterdam than San Francisco is to LA... so much for that "single market"

Same here. Moved to Germany last year, I wish they’d have the same €199 deals for HomePod here. $199 is actually pretty regular in the US.
Just looked and though the HP in DE is 320Eur, you get a 100Eur back... and you can actually buy a HomePod (or get a LTE Apple Watch, or refub Macs)... it's a bit more due to VAT being included (though in my case I get VAT back because I'm an Apple developer).

Oh, and as another example of what's is like in 3rd World Apple land... here what the big retailer in NL is willing to give the the privilege to buy a HomePod mini for (bol.com is like a NL Amazon and usually solid pricing):

bol-home-pod-mini.png

And Apple DE won't ship to NL (even though Amsterdam is closer to Berlin than SF is to LA)...

Germany is a "first-world" Apple country (vs. NL 3rd world status in the AAPL universe)...

This sort of thing happens for all sorts of products... it's one of the reasons IMO the EU can't effectively ever compete with the US as a single market.

You can tell my American-self who feels entitled in getting any product at a reasonable price, shipped overnight from across a continent due to strong competition and the world's best supply and transport chain is offended.

Can anyone help me, basically considering the HomePod from UK site, £279 and you get an £80 Apple Store Gift Card... now does this £80 have to be used on the Apple store or can it be used for iTunes/Apps etc aswell???

Everyone seems to say the balances are merged but according to the Apple Store Gift Card listing on the Apple Store it says this...

No I think you’re not getting what I’m saying. It has nothing to do with Apple getting their full amount when selling to Walmart. It’s about being anti-competitive. Every company is the same way. They do not allow their authorized resellers to “drop their drawers” on price in order to undercut the competition. That’s why Walmart and other Apple authorized retailers cannot sell Apple’s products below a certain threshold. Also Apple’s own customers won’t buy direct if Walmart is allowed to sell Apple’s products for any low ball price they want. Don’t take this the wrong way but please look up business 101.

The unified gift cards may be limited to US only right now.

Tacky sale and an insult to Black Friday. This is why I always hold off or buy open box from someone stupid enough to pay retail. Apple doesn’t know the meaning of a sale or how to engage consumers who spend intelligently. Someone put it exactly right: this is “old stock clearance” where they exclude literally every new product and discount everything they’re about to refresh within 60 days. The amount loaded on your gift card is your immediately upcoming depreciation.

Their recent releases are priced very well, but I am going to wait on this too because I know the design refreshes are right around the corner in 6-9 months. It was not like this at all when Steve was around. You could get a revolution in a box, internally and externally, and the upgrades felt like upgrades. All Tim does is breadcrumb and wring people out for the stock value.

The more they try to control my purchasing by staggering releases instead of just unifying the line, the more I smile back at them using a 2014 Mac mini and a paid off iPhone X I got for $500 unlocked during the Xs era.

I have purchased Homepod on Saturday and got £80 gift card.
Can I make another purchase today while the event is on, use £80 gift card towards another Homepod and receive another 80£gift card?
Thank you for the answer.

Why did they not put a 3rd red iPhone in that graphic? It bugs me
Yeah I noticed that too. It needs a 9th phone. Today I saw this on apple.com and it's a lot more harmonious and made me think of your comment.
