Apple Music Teaser: 'Get Ready – Music is About to Change Forever'

The Browse tab in the Music app across Apple's platforms has started displaying a prominent teaser hinting at an upcoming major announcement for Apple Music. Under the heading "Coming soon," the headline says "Get ready – music is about to change forever." An accompanying "Tune-In Video" simply shows an animated Apple Music logo.

Rumors have indicated that Apple is preparing to launch a new "Hi-Fi" tier of Apple Music involving lossless audio and perhaps a Spatial Audio experience on compatible hardware. An announcement could come as soon as this Tuesday, May 18.

The animated Apple Music logo in the teaser has a spinning effect as it switches back and forth between white on black and black on white, perhaps suggestive of the surround-sound nature of Spatial Audio.


The initial rumor about the Hi-Fi Apple Music tier appeared two weeks ago and hints of high-fidelity audio have been found in the code of both the iOS 14.6 beta and the Apple Music app for Android beta.

Some rumors have indicated that the launch of this new Hi-Fi Apple Music tier could come alongside third-generation AirPods, but others have indicated that the new earphones are not expected until later in the year.

If they can do it at no extra charge, including special spacial audio features for AirPods users, I think it’s gonna be really really tough on Spotify.
Especially with Spotify increasing their prices.
So of course, I expect Spotify immediately to file an anti-trust lawsuit against Apple within the hour of the announcement, because that’s all these other companies really know how to do anymore

Of course.
it will be just like the TV app, you can decide what Apple Music is allowed to download, what is allowed to stream on Wi-Fi, and what is allowed to stream on cellular.
so if you wanted to download HD tracks, on Wi-Fi stream HD tracks, but on cellular only stream regular SD tracks, that most likely will be possible

Okay, spatial audio causes everything to make so much more sense. “Why would this new service be incompatible with some AirPods and most other headphones?” Well, HiFi might not depend on hardware as much but spatial audio sure will.

Hopefully in addition to this tier thing they have going on, they will announce a better and cleaner user interface, like making everything user friendly (folders for curated playlists, more functionality on the player screen, not having to click so many times just to like a song, stuff like that).

They should save the money on the lawyers and start paying the artists fairly!

1) This is likely to be ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec), not FLAC.

2) Neither FLAC nor ALAC dictate the quality of the music. They are simply lossless audio codecs. High quality has to come from a high quality source, which is why you can take any 96 Kibps MP3 you want and re-encode it as any lossless format without making the quality better. You won't make it worse, but it won't be better, but if you just saw that it was a FLAC file you may think it's high quality without knowing any better. The real news will be if Apple is getting access to true masters for this new HiFi service option.

I know, it’s so hard, I can barely say it. “Siri, like this song!” And she/he does fantastic!
